yeah, it's really stupid that they're going to rework that storyline. i thought
that the scene in question worked really well.
well, hopefully they won't change it too much. hopefully they'll keep it similar
enough that we can whip up a fan-edit of the first episode as released and edit
back in this scene (and supporting scenes).

networks may say they don't like these pre-air's hitting the web but i'm sure
they really don't mind. they get word of mouth spreading long before the show
hits the tube. they can't buy this sort of marketing. i work at a tv station and
content they don't want to hit the web is guarded very closely and watermarks
are added. these water marks can't be seen without special equipment and they
allow the network to see exactly who leaked it. my guess is fox had it leaked
themselves, just like showtime has done with its new seasons.

thats exactly what i thought with all the leaked episodes lately.
however i think fox had some guy arrested for posting the first episodes of 24
on youtube before it aired last season.

"the watermark normally are hidden, but easily to see once you know the
location... in sarah conor it's only
2 frames long. a number, 102, on the windshield... clearly there for all to
see... but if you don't know
where it is you can't see it since it's only 2 frames and too small too notice
in normal play..."
thats not a digital watermark. its not a physical number you can see, its
encrypted data that can survive transcoding. its similar to the technology used
in advertising. basicly every ad sent to a tv station has a watermark in it.
this means when its played it registers on a machine monitoring that station, so
the advertiser know that the ad they payed for actually got played, instead of
having to watch it at the specific time. don't confuse a watermark with the
station bug (logo in the corner).
set-top box manufactures are starting to use watermark technology to add a
unique watermark to every set-top box its hoped that in the future it will work
better then drm which can just be striped away.
showtime had all there hit shows leaked on the internet last year, do you really
think that if they didn't want the same thing to happen this year they wouldn't
have tightened security or instead of sending out dvd's they would invite people
to special screenings so they could retain possession of their content? there
are only so many people internally that could leak it and they would have been
fired last year if they didn't want it to hit the net.
i know i have told at least 10 people how good the scc's was. people tend to
trust their friends opinions more then that of critiques opinions. now those ten
people may pass on to their friends that they were told its really good. this
viral marketing is proven to be very effective. just look at the blair witch
project.

i thought this was a very good pilot, my only gripe is
that the actress that
plays sarah conner is way too hot and about 6 minutes older then her son./quote]
ok, but you could easily say the same thing about linda hamilton, from the
original terminator.
now lena headey is a very attractive woman, no question. a very attractive 34
year old woman. which is just about the correct age for sarah connor. and about
14 years older than the actor who plays her son.
so he's a bit old for young teenage john, but that's fine.

i actually enjoyed it. i love the terminator. this is much better than the
bionic women that i just finished.

i found it quite wierd that you could hear the noise of the electric motors of
the terminators. can

i nominate summer glau as the actress most likely to be found in a role on a
new television series where she has to be completely naked at some point in her
first episode.
summer's fight scenes rock hard. that's one thing i liked about her in "serenity." she must be double jointed.

i'm still trying to get over the loss of janet. watching carson get laid to
waste made me want to find the writer and brick him to death. wtf is it with
the stargate people and killing off our most beloved doctor characters?
smokeonit wrote: @ 2min57sec15frames there's a watermark, 102, i hope the guy that uploaded
it knew about this... there's also a slate talking about the watermark... i
posted the divx time for the water mark, it's +18sec to the slate time code!
if hackers can steal copies of the harry potter book before it's even sent to
the printer, why would a watermark be of any concern? one of a hundred people
could have found a way to get a copy up on the internet.
personally, i think it's the smartest thing the networks (studios) ever
did. "the secret" got so popular because of its viral marketing campaign.
look how many months people now have to talk about it and recommend it to their
friends. by the time it actually airs, they should have a good sized
audience. i knew nothing about these shows. i watch so much tv i wouldn't
have given any of these shows a try - my fall prime time schedule is full.
then i read the comments attached to the torrents. the comments got me
interested in shows like chuck, pushing daisys and reaper (funny as all out!).
you can't just put things on tv these days because the networks refuse to wait
to build an audience anymore. it almost seems like you have to build the
audience first, then put it on the air. it will be interesting to see how
these pre-air releases affect the opening night audience.
smokeonit wrote: and the networks and sho/hbo do not want that stuff to leak, it means less
revenue since every dl means less revenue!!!
i disagree. it's the perfect way to get it out to the public free of charge.
the people i've told about the pre-airs i've seen don't watch tv on the
internet (too many of them don't know how to work a computer well enough to
deal with codecs, etc.). they are the ones who don't have a problem shelling
out an extra $10/month to add showtime or hbo to their cable lineup. word of
mouth is a strong selling tool. it's how the whole "water cooler
conversations" thing got started.
if the networks were really interested in selling more subscriptions, they'd
utilize word of mouth better. so what if some people download it? it's the
10 friends who don't do such things that build the numbers and honestly, most
of the people that i know who download wouldn't buy premium stations on cable
anyway. you have to know your market. your market is the people who do buy
premium channels, not people who can do without.
the sara connor chronicles pilot had a lot of good things about it. i'm a
little concerned about where they're going to be taking it (after three
terminator movies, how long can you keep fighting the future?). if they expect
to keep interest, i'd say they're going to have to find another angle,
whether it's showing more about the future where these creatures are coming
from or some episodes about what their lives can be as normal people between
bouts of the future going all wrong (including teaching them the technology so
they can be more prepared each time it happens). i think i'm going to be bored
if its the same "kill john connor" thing every week. jmo
