i've just played ep 13 on my standalone player and it seems to work ok. unlike ep 12, which froze after a few seconds, these one has no problem. so all those people worried about whether this ep is bad like the last one can stop worrying and dl it. either caph realised his mistake and corrected it or, more likely, there is more than one person making caph releases. whoever made ep 12 should find out how to set interleaving to 1 frame or change to virtualdub or nandub |

aydin 1954 is full of crap, as usual there are hundreds of different home players. the fact that this bad release plays on one of them---the one he has---is meaningless. i have downloaded several tv shows a day for years. only half a dozen have exhibited this kind of problem caph seems so fond of. you should not have to fix a bloody release before you can watch it. none of the other groups are so stupid as to deviate from the norm. caph should be banned from this site. i have three home dvd players, phillips, sigmatek and united: all play this release video but about ten minutes or so in the sound goes wildly out of sync. it is of no interest to say which people can see and hear the release properly. the problem is with those who cannot. saying you can does not in any way address the issue. if someone like caph causes so many problems for so many people why does eztvnet support him by pushing his release instead of getting a decent one from the many groups who normally do perfect releases? and why do they remove urls from some posts and not others?? <- you should know the answer to this ... |

if the people who claim to run this site were really interested in the poor people who waste their time downloading bad rips and then desperately trying to make them work by recoding, they would not just say 1. buy a new dvd player 2. bugger off if you don't like it they would try to see what the problem is and be constructive i am no expert, far from it. but gspot tells us that the non-working caph version is once again this week opendml [aviv2.0] while the fully working, no sound problems, version from xor is by contrast aviv1.0 could that be the problem? instead of taking such a defensive and abusive attitude, would it not behoove the big boss to remove a bad rip and replace it with one that does not elicit thousands of posts across the scene? |

i don't think so. i just ran gspot 2.70a on the following files from eztv and got also got opendml (avi v2.0): the.amazing.race.s11e02.pdtv.xvid-lol.avi the.amazing.race.s11e03.pdtv.xvid-lol.avi the.amazing.race.s11e04.pdtv.xvid-lol.avi all of these played ok on my standalone (telefunken i bought early in 2005). i don't see anything unusual about lost.s03e13.hdtv.xvid-caph.avi at all. |

also prison.break.s02e20.proper.hdtv.xvid-2hd.avi is opendml (avi v2.0) one difference is that the lost ep13 has no preload, but then again i've seen lots of files without preload too. btw, what happens when you play lost 3x13? does it just freeze up at the start? do you get blocks appearing? does it skip intermittently at random or specific points through the episode? and what's your player? |

i took a close look at lost.s03e13.hdtv.xvid-caph.avi and noticed that, in addition to opendml, it also says "rec list style" which the lol opendml files did not have. i googled "rec.list standalone avi" and got several promising hits. it seems there are standalones that don't support those features. "rec list" seems to be an optional feature of opendml so you can have one with or without reclist. it may be reasonable then to ban people who submit files with such features, but banning all "opendml" submitters would be drastic as that would hit lol. maybe just ban "rec list" files? i'm going to read through what google found to see if either feature has symptoms matching those reported on lost ep 13 |

well somebody posted a question on cd freaks early in 2005 asking if rec-list would be supported on future players because current players didn't already. i got mine in 2005 and it supports rec-list. maybe all players older than that don't. |

it\'s starting to look more likely that rec-list is the problem. on www.bwtorrents.com in 2005, slimzie posted <<<<quote>>>> posts: n/a 02-02-2005, 01:03 pm it\'s a kiss player but i get no error message. once i\'ve put it in, the screen goes black like it\'s about to start, but the disc play time stays at 0.00.00 and the screen just stays black. i burned both discs and the same happens with both of them. <<<<<quote>>>> \"unskinnyboy\" replied <<<<<quote>>>> 02-02-2005, 10:03 pm aha! a kiss player. time to change players kiss players won\'t work with opendml \"rec list\" style avis. it is a known bug with kiss. now what you can do is to open the file in avi-mux gui and resave it after unchecking \'make rec lists\' option, but then again i cannot guarantee that the player won\'t b0rk on anything else - namely legacy index, interleave/preload values etc. this is a typical case of the hardware players not keeping up to date with the software technological advances. some work with qpel, some won\'t, none work with 3point gmc, some work with packed bitstream, some won\'t, so on and so forth. so, basically all standalones cannot be satisfied. chances are that a whole bunch of the brg releases released offlate won\'t play on kiss \'as is\' (might play if created non \"rec list\" style), so be warned. brg is moving towards extreme compression, opendml avi, riff headers etc and chances are we won\'t be walking backwards. also, pc compatibility first, standalone compatibility later. <<<<endquote>>>> |

it's still a theory, of course. one way to test it is if you could create, or were sent, a pair of files that are identical except for rec-list and see how your player reacts to them. if rec-list fails and non-rec-list succeeds, then the theory is proved. i just had a look at virtualdubmod and found that the default setting seems to be to create opendml with rec-list. so all the files i have ever created with vdubmod would have had the same problem as lost ep13, but not ep 12 as vdubmod defaults to 1 frame interleaving. i would have made the same mistake as caph. even my suggested solution (see my prev post) would have changed any non-rec-list file to a rec-list file. if you were to try my solution on a file you have that works, you would probably create a file that doesn't! if that is the case, then the theory is proved. maybe you could try it out. you don't need to convert the whole file - vdubmod lets you select just the first few minutes. can any experienced uploaders who use vdubmod or gordian knot or anything comment on whether you always enable the "save avi in old 1.0 format" option? |
