Lost S03E13 HDTV XViD-Caph

sorry guys, i made a mistake.

lost.s03e13.hdtv.xvid-caph.avi wasn't using rec-lists after all.

i must have gspot'ed my re-interleaved ep 12 by mistake.

ep13 was created by nandub and that doesn't even have an option for creating
rec-lists. but it's the default for virtualdubmod.

that still leaves it a mystery why it won't play on a sony standalone.

but i'm sure its some similar problem. a subtle feature that isn't handled by
some (perhaps older?) players.

even so every post on this thread has raised some valid points. the file
doesn't play on all standalones, but plays better than ep12. both those who had
problems and those who did not were right to report their experiences. nobody
has yet to figure out what the problem is. blaming caph for using opendml
doesn't work because lol does it too. banning people without being able to
explain what exactly they did wrong seems unfair too. but something should be
done for those who have sony or philips player that don't accept this file.
finger-pointing doesn't help much. what we need is discussion, research and
testing.

ah well -i agree we all need to pool our resources.i converted my file to dvd
format which worked but the quality was yuk.what i wished i had thought to try
was agk which i had tried before. i sort of forgot because the previous time i
had used it the file wouldnt play at all but this did for a couple of seconds.

you press control and f9 and in the box at bottom left tick enable standalone
and enable ess.it takes ages to process as does turning to dvd but i think it
may have worked out.sadly i have dumped the files now so i cant try but its
worth a go.any experts think it would have worked??

although i was wrong about the rec-list thing, i did find some postings that
backed up dsrs's suggestion that opendml might cause problems on some players.
perhaps he was right after all. but to test that, people who couldn't play
caph's lost eps would need to try out this weeks
prison.break.s02e20.proper.hdtv.xvid-2hd.avi and report if they have the same
problems with that.

given the popularity of pb, i had assumed, because none of you complained about
it, that opendml did work on your players and there was something else wrong
with lost ep 13. but maybe you aren't pb fans or you only dl'ed the earlier
file with 3 secs of missing audio.

if dl'ing it would take too long, perhaps an uploader (preferably caph) could
create several short files with different settings that people could try out on
problem players.

i guess i'm not in the best position to investigate this problem as i'm not an
uploader and my standalone only has problems with ep 12 but not 13, so i can't
test it myself. the alternatives are for somebody like caph to get hold of a
player that won't work, or for people with the players to learn how avis are
encoded, or for both groups to get together, exchange files and sort it out
together. until we know what feature isn't supported, eztv can't be expected to
predict which files will fail on your players and to choose one that will work
for everyone.

it was perfect on my sony dvd/hard drive-i made a cd as normal.i think i will
try the new lost next week and see what i can do with it if is it causes
problems.

it is really great to see how constructive some people have been in trying to
solve what is a serious problem for some people. it is also instructive to me
to see how defensive and bitter and unhelpful the soi disant administrators of
this site are. i understand their point about not choosing the episodes. that
must be frustrating for them. however for them both to utterly deny what so
many people are posting, rather than to use their expertise to help us out, is
surprising. i only posted in order to warn/help other people who might have
had the same problem as me. i certainly will never return to this forum again,
given i see that the attitude is one of bullying and shrill denunciation from
these guys. what fun to be a forum nazi. meanwhile, there are lots of other tv
sites.
