a perspective at life that has issues that many people deal with.

transsexual, gay, pregnant teen, teen father, being older than you portrait or
are... simply, just being different.

i want to see what the "perfect" community does (be bitches? obviously. or are
they?) to the perfect doctor husband after it all unravels.

yeah nip/tuck is entertaining, but i'm not watching a show based on someone
dealing with transsexual issues. trannies are probably the most offensive type
of freak.

you do realize that watching a show about a transsexual will not actually cause
your penis to fall off, right?

i thought it was great, a nice follow up to nip/tuck.

there's a young guy on the show who reminds me of james spader's character in
pretty in pink but looks more like heath ledger. i also enjoyed sarah paulson in
her role, which is amazing.

i'm not sure which is more offensive: the transphobic transmisogynists who are
so insecure they feel the need to attack trans folk any chance they get or this
show created by cissexual people who obviously don't have a clue what it's like
for any gender variant person whatsoever. the pilot employs every stereotype in
the book and while you may find it entertaining, those of us who have lived it
find this incredibly degrading. our lives are nothing like this. just once i'd
like to see someone get it right. if the producers had any interest in our
stories at all they would have consulted transsexuals before they put out this
garbage.

that would have to be frustrating. i've seen a lot of shows, though, where they
were a little stereotypical (about a group) in the pilot or first couple of
episodes to bring people unfamiliar with the culture up to speed. if it were
airing on logo or something it might be different, but then a bigger complaint
might be that mainstream tv didn't cover transsexual topics well enough.

i think it's a massive step forward from the typical tv portrayal--every police
procedural features at least one dead transsexual hooker per year.

very good and respectful. i'm m2f transsexual, and it's nice to see the subject
treated without the point and laugh and humilation we usually get in the media,
let alone as a major focus character and big name actors like ralph fiennes.

it has nothing to do with how secure i am with myself, i just don't believe that
gender can be changed. i don't really care if someone would be more comfortable
in a different gender..it doesn't change nature. southpark summed it up quite
eloquently in the episode where one of the kids becomes trans-racial and gets
operations to turn him into a black kid, while his father goes trans-species.

there's an old chinese saying, which i think applies perfectly. if you want to
change the world - change yourself first, if you want to change (yourself)
start with the world. (rough translation)

still, imo if a person is so lost (or thinks he is) sex change, looks to me
like a wrong approach to the problem. anyway i think it takes a lot of guts and
a major desperation to go agains the very thing that created all of the life on
this planet i.e nature. -> another evidence that human body and human brain are
unrelated in terms of origins.

as usual we're greeted with broad statements like "you can't change your gender"
without any backing whatsoever other than the word "nature". i assume by
"nature" you are referring to chromosomal pairings. have you ever had your
chromosomes checked out? i'm going to take a stab and say you haven't. you
probably also are unaware as to the emerging studies showing that there are
plenty of women with xy pairings and men with xx pairings who never feel out of
place in their assigned genders. or perhaps you're referring to ones genitals.
how do you take intersex people into account then? if you lost your penis in a
freak accident would you stop being a man? no, you wouldn't. secondary sexual
characteristics are arbitrary. i have breasts, long hair, soft features. i
look like a woman because, and don't be shocked, i am one. i live as a woman
everyday. i suffer your sexism and your misogyny. i get paid less to do the
same job you do. my sex is not unnatural, a put on, a joke, or an insult.

you are deluded. if south park is your best defense then your logic is
tremendously weak. we're left with one immutable fact: you are a bigot. you
feel you have the right to horde your cissexual privilege over anyone who
doesn't fit snugly into your comfort zone by waving your hand and saying "you
can't change nature". you don't understand nature. if you did, you wouldn't be
speaking so ignorantly.

while they may have done a few things right and may continue to do so in the
episodes to come, this pilot does not make me hopeful. you're right, the tranny
hooker stereotype hasn't shown up... yet. so many other stereotypes have though
and that makes me anxious. as a community we often find ourselves being pushed
backwards by this sort of media attention. misinformation is put forward
because of a desire by the creators to create what they believe will be a more
engaging story. all it does for us is leave us to have to, once again, say "no,
we aren't actually like that. no, we don't do that nor do we feel that way."

really? you think this is an accurate portrayal? have you ever said "oh, i
broke a nail!" or showed your vagina to a perfect stranger just because your
transman husband thought it would be neat? yeah... me neither. that's because
this stuff doesn't happen in the real world.

obsessing over panties? yeah, i did that too.... when i was twelve! come on...
how many times do we have to watch the application of makeup and the reveal of
the pathetic tranny who can't "pass". it's all so tired. give me a positive
role model, someone who is comfortable in who they are. let a transsexual right
her own story about what her life has been and put that on television. that's
what i want to see. everything else is just exploitation.

accurate or not, that was still an excellent pilot afaic, well written, a
stellar cast, nicely pitched and v enjoyable. again, thank you very much – i
really look forward to the season proper.

also, more people need to realise that there's a difference between sex (biology
- male, female, hermaphroditic etc), gender (masculinity, femininity and
everything in between) and sexuality (heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual,
whatever floats your boat). there's not some fixed binary whereby if you have a
penis you are inherently masculine and like to have sex with women, etc. it's
not rocket science, and it's not that hard to get your head around.

great show! compared to most of the new stuff coming out, this was actually
quite good and entertaining, hits alot of touchy topics in america almost like
big love did except this is more focused on transsexuals and how they live a
secret life and there's more to the show than just that, his family each have
they're own problems too and i think it will be a big hit just like big love
was. i recommend watching it!

is this show like the blokes penis going to get the chop?

i thoroughly enjoyed this one! one of the best new ones i\'ve seen so far.
its really well done. and, its something different. i will be downloading
regularly and looking forward to it. \")
