in this program, nova captures the turmoil that tore apart the community of
dover, pennsylvania in one of the latest battles over teaching evolution in
public schools. featuring trial reenactments based on court transcripts and
interviews with key participants, including expert scientists and dover
parents, teachers, and town officials, "judgment day: intelligent design on
trial" follows the celebrated federal case of kitzmiller v. dover school
district. this two-hour special was coproduced with paul g. allen's vulcan
productions, inc.

in 2004, the dover school board ordered science teachers to read a statement to
high school biology students suggesting that there is an alternative to
darwin's theory of evolution called intelligent design

whoa dalezer whoa! your beliefs are a wee bit twisted. whatever natural
processes god puts in motion into the universe cannot be stopped by man! they
remain, my friend, they remain. man may deviate from those processes and get
himself into complex problems, but he, in his infinite wisdom is cognizant that
man is a learning animal and therefore provides, within those same natural
processes, the means to get back on track and continue our evolution. this is
how man survives and evolves through time.

you can stream the program in full and watch additional material at pbs's site:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/id/program.html

and if you're one of those "readers", i recommend "monkey girl: evolution,
education, religion, and the battle for america's soul" by edward humes for more
about what happened in dover.

what i dislike about this debate is that people like myself who find it hard to
believe that the universe suddenly popped into existence from nothing are
grouped together with and are thought of like the people who think the earth is
5000 years old and a mystical dude with a white beard made the planet and all
the animals in six days and then took a nap. hell, i know that the bible is 99%
fantasy, and whatever true history you can squeeze from the remaining one
percent (like the existence of moses, king david, jesus) should be taken with
more than a grain of salt. i don't believe in the teachings of any religion,
though i might agree with some of their more virtuous philosophies like not
murdering people.

just because i think there might be something behind this place we call the
universe does not make me religious, and certainly doesn't make me a zealot nut-
job, as many atheists on the internet would claim.

"im not talkin about the bible, as the bible is a set of
teaching for proper moral, ethical, compationate
human behaviour"

err, behavior?

the bible is for people too weak-minded, too out of touch with their souls to
develop a sense of
compassionate ethics on their own. who don't need some kid-f*cking preacher to
yammer on about what's
"right" (gimme money gimme power gimme money) and what's right.

excellent choice - looking forward to this. even if it means (sob) i'm a
monkey's son. ☹️

lol not weak minded, weak morals or flawed morals. you can be a freakin
genius but still have flawed, self centered morals. well maybe not flawed,
just ego centric morals. btw its not monkeys, our dna 99.9% similar to chimps
which are apes, not to mention the many primitive similarities in our
emotional and societal behaviours (ie empathy, the "us vs them" mentality,
violence, territoriality, ranks in society, etc etc).. don't get me wrong we
didn't come from chimps, we came from our own separate dna ancestor lineage
which branch off from the same one as theirs, many thousands
of years ago.
lol

to dalezer:

you know why there are no "handicapped squirrls or birds" its because the
mutation that led to a change in the specie was most likely not helpful for it
to survive and mate therefore it could not pass on its mutated genes to the next
generation and they die off either due to being victim of a predator attack or
natural aging. the reason why we humans are different is because we have higher
brain functions and more driving us that just the baser instincts of food, rest
and sex.

as for religion incorporated into the state govn't, we cannot have this because
of a little thing called the constitution where it says separation of church and
state. because they just escape from a theocratic rule and did not want this
country to return to that. besides this country is made up of immigrants who
have different religious backgrounds, and who are you to say your christian god
is better than my god(s) or for you to force your morales and believes onto me.

and as to the bully reference, isn't that what your god is demanding or am i so
totally wrong? does god not demand patronage or else you suffer? if you pay your
god with money/attention/worship are you not free from punishment? and if you
decide to turn your back on your god, are you not punished for it with being
sent to hell or purgatory until you change your mind? so how is my bully
reference wrong? if you dont pay the bully, the bully will hurt you for ever
until you decide to pay up.

yea the most intelligent people were considered crazy during their times, such
as galileo whom the church crucified for expressing views that were non-church
oriented.

enough ranting from me...i'm just flabbergasted as to how people (somewhat
intelligent people) can continue to believe in a religion that has resulted in
more deaths throughout history than both ww1 and ww2 combined. how people
continue the practices of one of (if not the most) bloodiest faith on this planet.

im
a person of religious faith and a person of scientific knowledge. there truth
in both. we just haven't bridge the gap between them yet. and very much won't
be able to do so in our future human history. only god knows the truth.

there is truth in science, there is on only belief in religion. there is only
belief that there is a god.
