original premise? i certainly never created one.. the only original
premise was what i decided to torrent and seed myself.. so in this respect it
would seem not much has changed. if eztv decided to switch entirely to
audiobooks that would be our choice..

where did i say you can't criticise? i do (by choice) take onboard some
criticism for eztv.. while i could just simply always answer: don't like the way
we do things? feel free to download your tv shows for free elsewhere..

the right to criticise (and for that criticism to be taken onboard) only exists
when there is some kind of trade taking place. you give us nothing by leeching..
and so you do not have the right to criticise.. for all the staff at eztv this
is pure charity. this does not mean we don't want criticism.. it just
ultimately means we don't have to listen to it. eztv unfortunately is not a
democracy.

we could completely ignore every user comment if we chose to.. and if eztv was
to fail that would also be our choice.. not yours. this is the way things are.
if you do wish to criticise the way things are done you are more than welcome to
come by eztv and get involved.. i'm sure we can find some job for you to do.

creator of the site exactly why he created the site? did you get this \'original

so now you know my criticism (whether you believe i have to right to criticise
or not - however, if you feel that seeding so that others can seed is the only
reason for the site, then why not make a private tracker? or make it so that
only seeders are able to post messages in relation to releases?).

i founded/started eztv under my concept of how it could work (azriel said he
created it and that's not untrue) and i'm like 'an audio book, really?'

i am also of the opinion that tv is for the most part not clear cut copyright
violation unless it's pay per view or only on a pay channel and widely available.

imo sanctuary should be stopped being released on eztv once people are hooked
(about now), it should help not hurt it, the same is the case with this audio
book except i suspect more than a taste was released. (though only the first one
so if no more are released)

i don't think anyone is going to listen to me since i haven't been an op for
many moons.

i actually like the odd quirky release but wish it wasn't such an obvious
copyright violation.



why tv on the internet isn't a stealing/copyright violation:

first copyright violation is the legal term because stealing simply doesn't fit.
(if you had a genii grant you 3 wishes would you not ask for a car to magically
materialize because you would be 'stealing' some car companies design? (if
something is stolen you no longer have it)

but it's not even a copyright violation, or at least not really, time shifting
with a vcr isn't technically legal in many places either.

most stuff if free to air.

most people are international and can't see it (or not in good time/quality).

those without people meters really don't count except for the advertisers
missing out. (as happens if you leave the room or fast forward)

it helps people watch things on tv by catching up on missed eps.

i read somewhere that if a copyright violation has less than a certain value it
doesn't count, how do you count free to air or even cable when it's only a small
part?

but finally i can say this 100%, if it's a copyright violation or not sharing tv
programs online is moral.
i started when something was canceled locally but still went on for seasons in
the us.
basically tv as it currently is is a dinosaur and only at the time was it
excusable to have such a poor distribution system, once the internet made it
possible it was a 100% certainty that people would choose to overcome the
weaknesses of:

transmission coverage, scheduling, global markets, variable quality,
blackouts/missed shows/interrupted shows/missed shows.

basically unless everyone has a tivo that has a ups, 1,000 of gigs to keep all
programming you could possibly care about for a month or 2, perfect even
worldwide coverage and perhaps the possibility to opt out of ads (with a
reasonable fee) or ff them then the internet will prosper as a source of current
tv and it's no good them blaming anyone but themselves as expecting people to do
otherwise for no good reason is stupid.

the same can not be said for this audio book, though i do think azriel's intent
is good.

again creator isn't untrue because i can't say for sure that without his input
anything would have come out of the effort of myself and many others who joined
before him, he made it work. (he released the first real torrent)
but the vision though mostly shared was mine as was how to do it without failing
as fast and swiftly as the others from attack by the mpaa.

after an issue with making my internet gf an op (big mistake) i left. (be
careful of giving women power, sorry if that sounds chauvinistic)
and wasn't allowed back in even after she left.

i've read all three books and in response to how similar they are to the harry
potter books i would say that his dark materials triology is aimed at a higher
age range, more so than the harry potter books. even if you did not enjoy or
were unable to get into the harry potter books; northern lights and the rest
are definantly worthwhile.

hmm it's odd that winrar didn't extract all the files unless you extract using
the one with the rar extension.. i've never come across it doing that before.
but so long as all the files are there 🙂 if i post the rest of these books i'll
use the new rar naming system (part1.rar) etc.

real torrents.. i sourced them all.. i created them all.. i tracked them all.. i
posted them all.. and i seeded them all.. by myself.. with almost no help in
this respect what-so-ever 😛 i lost weeks and weeks of sleep doing that.. and
i'm not even going to go into any details about how much work i put into
designing the release system.. (which we still use)

anyway, that is what started eztv.. mass inviting people to #eztv from other
channels does not give you the right to use the title founder.. it just makes
you a cock.

i can say with absolute certainty that without my input eztv would have never
existed to more than around 4 people.. simply because you would have never
released a torrent. it is largely irrelevant if you believe that you would have
released torrents.. because you never did. the only thing you can lay
claim to is the name eztv.. and in hindsight i seriously wish i had never
bothered with it. your 'security concepts' were terrible.. you did a lot of
talking and very little else.. 99.9% of what you said was absolute meaningless
dribble. you were (and apparently remain) absolutely clueless..

sorry, i'm in a take no prisoners kind of mood at the moment.. i'm not always
this angry/arrogant 😛

i can't even believe most of what i've just read in this thread.
some people have really lost track of what they have the right to protest
against and what they don't. i'm not opposing freedom of speech, by no means,
but depending on the subject and the context of any given argument there is one
such thing as irrelevant opinions.
i could say lots more on the subject but i won't as i hardly see it worthy of
wasting even more time and energy.

when i clicked on the link to the messages all i really wanted to know was
whether we would have the chance to download the other 2 audiobooks. i hope none
of this nonsensical discussion has discouraged azriel to keep his original intent.

thank you for this torrent and for the entirety of eztv. it is without a doubt a
priceless resource and completely unworthy of such blatantly offensive remarks.

note: many others have put much work into the releasing/seeding systems

i also had many sleepless nights (though you out did me), it wasn't just you
doing work either. (sleepless as in working to get eztv going)
i'm not debating that you actually made it happen, whipped things into gear etc...
but i formed the group, the concept etc... (at the time most people were
doubtful that another group could be formed/survive and had to be brought around
to the possibility)
and the main point of my post was that the vision was firmly in place and
discussed by members before i recruited you. (you say it's not a democracy but
it's not a one man operation either, not close and you aren't king)

maybe if you hadn't run into me you would have started a group anyway, but you
hadn't until you joined eztv.
maybe if i hadn't run into you eztv wouldn't have got off the ground, or then
again maybe it would have.

at the same time you have tried to close/kill eztv several times and have left
for many months at a time.

you deserve the most credit perhaps but it wasn't your vision (initially/alone).
even if you decide to minimize my roll in starting eztv and recruiting so many
members there are lots of others who put a lot into making eztv work, it's not
just you and you should give them credit.

at the same time imo releasing an audio book doesn't go against the vision in a
one off way but it might if it removed all reason for people to purchase it
others in the series.

i recruited op's, mass inviting people (in dead irc tv channels) was a tiny but
needful way of giving #eztv an audience and pool of
talent/connections/resources. (there is no other way it would have worked as
none of us had all it took to do it alone including you)
that's about 1% of what i did, and if me being a cock was the price of launching
eztv then i'll wear that with pride.

it was well more that 4 people, it was 15-20 if not more people and you joined
the best part of a week into it.
many of them still valuable op's
it is true that i didn't have the internet connection needed to kick things off
and it wouldn't have worked if i hadn't found someone who did. (vowel did, he
named eztv but never came through with the bandwidth)
i would have kept trying, might be a 50% chance if you hadn't come along.

eztv still runs in the way i laid it out which is the concept of outsourcing as
much as possible and it's the reason it is still around.
previously #bt and #tvtorrents etc... had tried to do everything and no only was
that too much to do meaning they had regular failures but it allowed the mpa to
attack them.

so i had outsourced the tracking (one thing the mpaa goes after and a big load)
and the website (another target of the mpaa and a drain on resources) and the
serving of .torrent files.
i got bnc's (thanks to my cocky recruiting) to keep the op's safe and provided
that the seeders are trusted and the main server isn't on the torrent when it
goes public there is no way to identify anything (you'd need to compromise a seeder)

without a concept of how we could survive (where 3 had just fallen to mpaa
pressure) you would have had a hard time recruiting anyone and you didn't have
all the pieces.

i appreciate the work you put and continue to put into eztv for whatever that's
worth, i devoted several weeks full time with almost no sleep myself.

at the same time eztv only works with the contribution of so many people in eztv
(seeders, releasers, site programmers, channel op's, those with scene access
needed to source the content and that's not counting bt-chat or the trackers et al)
there are a great many people who selflessly help make eztv work, it's a
community effort and as the years pass by my % of input is dwarfed by those who
help keep it running and grow.

even if you would have started a group yourself (i'd put greater odds on you
just thinking about it) i doubt you would have recruited such a huge group that
has been vital to keeping eztv going regardless of your moods.
i also am sure based on what you tried to do initially that you would have tried
to do the whole thing instead of outsourcing trackers/website/.torrent downloads.

let's just say i created the vision, you did the most work (especially initially
and for a while) and while it's possible there are doubts that eztv (by another
name or not) would exist right now without each of us doing everything we could
to make it work.

common sense. there is a big difference between talking about stuff and actually
doing stuff. i was not trying to lessen other people's roles, over the time many
people have put in a lot of time and effort and i am very appreciative of it. i
was just stating my experience of the role i have played. as you stated vowel
also did next to nothing, he never (to this day) has delivered on any of the
things he has said. he is a perfect example of the type of "help" i received at

i'd just like to point out that despite my views about the posting of this
torrent, i've never made an offensive (blatant or otherwise) remark about azriel
or this site. as i've said before, i love eztv and this site is my default
homepage. it's a brilliant concept with a brilliant suite of support options
(rss, tv news, forum, countdown list et al).

it was one little negative comment/ view/ critique/ opinion in an otherwise
completely positive attitude towards eztv and it's mods/ volunteers.

please, please do post the next two books (and "lyra's oxford"?). this audiobook
is superb. i had no interest in the trilogy before you uploaded this, but now
i've already ordered the books from amazon and will definitely go to see the
film when it comes out. more!

th0m you cannot believe how happy i am to hear that! that is precisely the
reason why i posted this audiobook! i found this entire trilogy to be absolutely
remarkable. i'm not normally a fan of audiobooks but due to the narrator being
the author, the fact it has a full cast and that it is verbatim the same as the
books, it is a rare exception.

the subtle knife is possibly even more amazing than northern lights. i think i
first discovered northern lights in 1996 and since then i've read the entire
trilogy many many times. the amber spyglass is a very complex book and each time
i read it i seem to appreciate it on a new level. i can't even express how much
i love these books, if the film messes up this trilogy i intend to launch
full-scale war against new line cinema.

i'll release the next two audiobooks on eztv, expect them either tonight or
tomorrow.
