regarding the appropriatness of posting non-tv torrents, from
eztv's own faq:

q: how about movies ... ebooks... will you release those? where can
i get them?

a: eztv is strictly a distribution group for current television. eztv has no
interest in getting involved with the other types of media, and you should
look elsewhere for such releases. we also ask that you not look for guidance
to these releases in the irc channel or forum - the most likely you response
you will receive is "go and buy it".

occasionally eztv may seed a non-tv release if it is deemed of particular
interest. but this is to be considered a rarity and purely at the discretion of
the admins.

yeah i wrote that.. thanks for quoting it back to me though..

i've always wanted to read these books, never got round to it but this should
spice things up and interest me again especially with the lack of good tv
these days... thank you very much azriel!

no one is forcing you to download this.. you have the ability to
choose what you
download do you not?

yeah, but one of the great things about this site is, that you don't have to
sort through pages and pages of trash to get the files you are interested in
(not saying this file is trash, i don't know the book).
you can upload whatever you want of course, but there *is* a point in generelly
only uploading tv-related stuff, because it makes the site more functional.

i had to join so i can ask a question
i got the trilogy in mp3 formats early in 2003 & they were bitrate 32kbps &
audio sample rate 11khz & the voice sounded like they were under water
are these a lot better quality?
can you please tell us the bitrate please?
& what was the point of zipping them up?
[#40828] Written by: [15/06/2007, 02:41]
bitrate is 160kbps so very high quality for an audiobook.
[#40845] Written by: lfcdan [15/06/2007, 04:10]
a little while back i brought this trilogy. unfortunately i brought the copy
that has all 3 books in it and its a bit heavy to read in bed.
so thatnks very much azriel. i'll download this and listen instead.
and if you release the next two i'll do the same there.

just another 2c worth ...

a truely brilliant torrent in it own right ... but put on demonoid or tpb or
somewhere, not eztv.

dt.

ps. how about posting the latest "after the catch" instead ....

yeah...i'm sorry but i have to agree in that i don't think it's all that
appropriate to a tv dist. group. i mean, sure, you can say it's (very) remotely
related as far as prefilm hype...but it's a film, not a tv series that you're
talking about! i also agree that the beauty of this site is you don't have to
sort through trash, it's tv and tv only (or should be).
i think it's unfair that just because az is an admin then they can post whatever
they damn want.
what about audiobooks of the 'blood' series by tanya huff? 'the dresden files'?
like someone else said, 'dr who'? and those are all markedly more relevant
audiobooks to a tv dist. group than 'northern lights'.
if you really wannt to promote the film and get people into the cinemas to watch
it (yeah, good luck with that), why not just post a link to a mininova or ts
torrent in the forum? or encourage people to go out and buy the books? on the
one hand, you say you're trying to get people to pay to see the film, but you're
providing these audiobooks completely free and in violation of copyright laws.
it doesn't make much sense.
this torrent has no relation to tv in any way whatsoever. please remove it or at
least don't post the rest or others like it.

let's keep eztv all about eztv, not eznova!

i created eztv why shouldn't i be allowed to post whatever i "damn want"? as far
as everything else you've said i believe i have already provided appropriate
answers.

although i feel like i should remind you that eztv is entirely free and everyone
who has ever worked on eztv has done so out of the kindness of their hearts. as
such, you can neither demand nor expect anything from eztv. if you don't like
the stuff we post you're more than welcome not to use our free service.. really
we don't mind

in my opinion most of what's on tv at the moment is trash.. and this torrent is
not trash. maybe you're sorting through the wrong stuff?

to paraphrase chris rock ...

"books are like goddamn kryptonite to ignorant motherfuckers !"

i wonder if the same holds true for audiobooks ?

aaaaaanyway ... to all those hand-wringing about it not being tv :-

ok then. how about you start up a torrent distribution site, make the
scene contacts, procure the content, host the servers, pay for the bandwidth,
and all the other myriad things it takes to bring you a resource like
eztvefnet ... then i might give more than a bottle of stale piss for
your pontificating.

it's not like azriel is taking anything away from the site's normal
content - all you have to do is not click the link.

how hard can that be, even for those in terminally short supply of self
control ?

azriel,

(or should we call you \"lord asriel? ;-)

as a long-time fan of the \"purity\" of eztv\'s mission, i fully support your
decision to post this.

i have bought several copies of the trilogy to give away to friends and
relatives, to spread the love. i believe strongly that your promulgation of
this audio book will encourage more people to buy the books, and even more to
watch the first movie when it comes out later this year, starring daniel craig
and nicole kidman.

as the founder of this site, you have every right to decide what is relevant,
and what is not. i live in a country where there is no legal way to watch
english-language television, so eztv is a fantastic boon for me. if it wasn\'t
for the short-sightedness of media execs, leading to myopic licensing
agreements, i would happily support a site like eztv commercially, and would
happily pay 1-2 euros per episode for my favourite television series (naturally,
after sampling a few episodes to decide if i like it or not.)

anyway, having the occasional gem such as this posted shouldn\'t be a hardship
for the purists, but know you\'ve got my vote.

kurai very nicely said hehe

ahbleza i appreciate that, eztv was pretty much created for people like you. in
my opinion the day that tv shows are provided online globally for a nominal fee
per episode or on a reasonably priced subscription basis is the day that eztv
need no longer exist. but who knows if that will ever happen

good lord people.

az & the rest of the staff can post whatever they fucking choose to post.

it\'s their site so stop your whining and shut the fuck up.

if you don\'t like their selections either go elsewhere or start your own fucking
torrent site.

got it?

dude wash your mouth out
the potty talk out of you is disgusting

lol you people make me laugh, u dl borderline legal stuff then have the cheek to
tell them what they can put on their own site, what the hell is it to do with
you anyway? if you don't like it, don't download it.. its that simple.
