good cast, i'll give it a go

what the hell is with all these doctor and cop shows? they are usually cancelled withing the first
season.
i'm sick of seeing them, i wanna see a doctor show where people come in with unusual symptoms like
vampirism or the dead coming back and see how these god damn doctors deal then!

maybe we need a doctor vampire show where he/she moonlights as a private eye helping the police.

probably because there is a new one every 2 seconds or so, and they all lack originality. i mean, when
people have jobs in american series, they are always either doctors, lawyers, or cops, as if those groups
make the most interesting people. well sir, i know lawyers, doctors, and cops, and they are all no
hemmingway, with their boring long-hour job and empty personalities...

now hookers and garbagemen, that's where it's at! make me a show about that!

abc have greenlit with less of a pitch than this. lets get it done :d

seriously- this complaint is getting tired. there's a good reason so many shows are medical or crime
related. the real money is in syndication. serials sell poorly in syndication. ergo, if you want to make
money create a sitcom or an episodic drama.

what makes for a successful episodic drama?
-there's a neat 40 minute a story arc with a beginning, middle, and end
-the premise allows you to repeat the same basic conflict every week
-high stakes so the viewer cares what happens (like saving a patient, catching a killer, prosecuting the
guilty or defending the innocent)

in other words: medical, crime, and courtroom procedurals

the formulas work and it's hard to come up with something new that works as well- but when someone
does it gets copied to death.

example: x-files took the cop show and mixed in some twilight zone for fun. fbi agents solved
mysteries that were actually sci-fi or fantasy based. surprisingly, it was a success. although it lead
directly to fringe and warehouse 13, the bigger influence was that it gave producers the courage to
greenlight a show that removed the cop show and sci-fi elements and just let the protagonists chase
after supernatural entities that caused mayhem: buffy the vampire slayer

we got a new formula. the 'monster of the week', which begat angel, charmed, supernatural, haven,
lost girl, grimm, etc. in addition to doctors, lawyers, cops and pis, we now have monster hunters.

just how are you going to do that with hookers and garbage men?

initially i was kind of leaning towards agreeing with the complaint, however, you sir, got your point
across very well, it does make sense and we're forgeting that these shows are actually business and as
such business rules prevail.

hell yes you can do that with hookers and garbage men.

hooker: sleeps with a john, gets a supernatural sti and now can do (insert power here). you can go a
few ways with this, since getting this ability she now only has select clients, she can learn about
their ways and her hooker friend gets ripped up main super hooker can dig deep and sleep her way to
the truth.
or you have hooker who accidentally gets caught up in the underworld, she keeps her mouth shut but
her eyes open until her kid gets napped by one of her johns.

garbage men, they take out the trash! these guys empty the wrong dumpster and get caught in
something that smells a little off. a body or said item is found, maybe one of their own gets done.
they take it upon themselves to clean up the streets.

i would watch that!

or they could just bring back firefly .

do we seriously need another medical drama series ? c'mon !
