i have to agree that the show started slow and i was tempted to give up in early season 1 but since
then it's only gotten better and better imo. shame syfy won't support it more.
you can't blame syfy, despite them clearly making a deal with the demons of reality tv, as they only
cancelled it based on ratings. if you want to blame anyone look at the millions of over-opinionated
bloggers who essentially spewed a view which saw sgu as "bad sci-fi", which then caused other people
to see it that way to look "cool" and then they stopped watching it or watched it just to point out
the myriad flaws in every episode. all the while sitting on their asses unable to produce anything
more significant than an extremely foul flatulence.
people have entirely unrealistic standards and as long as they continue having those standards they
will never see what they class as a "good sci-fi" because they have no interest in actually
investing time in to the genre they supposedly love, as it flails around trying not to drown in a
sea of medical dramas, police procedurals and reality tv.
who knows terra nova might not be as crazy and asinine as its name suggests, but it's still a
stretch to peg it as a science fiction show. to put it simply if you want to see "good sci-fi", by
whatever lofty definition you give to that, then sit down, shut up and watch anything that is
branded science fiction.
indeed this was the best episode since the beginning.
i love sci fi and hate to say it, but until this last season, i thought it was pretty boring, too bad they didn't
pull this kind of stories sooner...
i agree.
this is one of the best sci fi shows ever, didn't even like the other stargate series just the original movie.
but you can't really blame the ratings ether, as i understand it they don't represent the actual views just a small sample. the networks just pretend they represent anything real and listen to the feedback from the
audience. witch unfortunately in the case of this show has been destroyed by the trolls...
let's hope there's gonna be a couple of good tv movies of sgu, and don't forget the original star trek series
was pretty much a flop until the movies came out=)
i think the answer is simple, intelligent technologically savvy people download the shows to watch on their
computers or dvd systems whenever they want and the people who stick with the old system of tv are
usually the not so sophisticated crowd that keep the reality tv in business.
as far as i know any self respecting geek downloads the show instead of watching it on tv which explains
why most sci-fi shows fall.
u cant beat sg1 with its 10 uber seasons + addiotnal movies.
thats why st voyager was so populair, if they made sgu more like voyager, it would get much better
reviews.
but the cancelation is fine, i watch it cause of the name stargate, but the actors are poorly chosen
except for 5-6 players. the story line is chaotic and the ship+new technologie is just shit compared to
sg1 and atlantis.
if they just make 1 movie for sgu, to complete the story lines. and never touch the sg franchise again,
im happy.
"as far as i know any self respecting geek downloads the show instead of watching
it on tv which
explains
why most sci-fi shows fall. "
aint that the truth
i've often thought about watching the show on a real tv just to help with the 'ratings'
your right with regards to most of the people that watch sci-fi download the tv shows- but still
this is rubbish. i am a huge sci-fi fan- pretty much watched every single sci-fi show and movie ever
made- even black and white old ones.
its sad that shows like "firefly" got canned when they where far superior to this .
i do like some episodes but this sgu seems to be a rerun of the older shows with a different twist
to it.
perhaps its time for a completely new idea.
i do not believe the new terra or falling sky will be that- as they have been done before so many
times-they may last 2-3 season but ultimately get cancelled due to low ratings(which are woefully
inaccurate)
we need a fresh completely new idea to take sci-fi to the next level.
why do people constantly say "nothing happens" in sgu?
it is the exact same type of story you find in sg-1 and sga, an whole episode about a problem the
sgc needs to solve, normally stuff like aliens taking over the base or some one getting his mind
stuck in some alien device or swaped to some paralax universe and so on.
this episode is as much stargate as it has ever been, and it had a very typical stargate-dilemma in
my eyes.
if you don't like stargate-like episodes, don't fracking watch shows with "stargate" in its title
... shiisssshe
