for 45 minute shows you usually get 4 episodes on one retail dvd and those are
dvd9, thats 2gb per episode with a much lower resolution than x264.
does that make dvds ridiculous too?
would anybody be so kind and let me know what the title of this episode is? the last one i saw was the
ark but since the uk, canada and scifi air, or will air them in different orders, i have no idea if i saw this
one yet.
and yes, 350 mb files would be appreciated. sometiimes you just want to watch them. 😉
ok, i did some digging and finally found a definitive airdates guide on the station that airs them in
canada, the movie network:
you have to go here: http://www.themovienetwork.ca/search.php
and enter "atlantis" in the search. (without the " " quotes.)
no one is stopping you from downloading the 350 mb episodes. the 720p releases
are purely optional. 350 mb versions were released a week ago, from a dvd rip of
a promotional dvd that had the first 4 episodes. i believe it was released
january 7th. 350 mb episodes will continue to be released for the rest of the
season, as they were in the past.
these 720p releases are only for those that want the highest quality attainable.
they are really exceptional, and i would recommend you try them before bashing
them- if you have a fast pc that is.
thought i'd also add that i can play and navigate these files with wmp and i'm
running an athlon xp 3000+ (2.1ghz) with 1gb ram. that would place it as high-
end somewhere in 2003, thus it's essentially 4 years old.
i'm running on a am xp 3000+ (2 ghz) and 1 gb of ram. here are my suggestions
for optimum performance. i've tested with windows media player, vlc, mplayer,
and windows media player classic with the core avc codec.
with vlc and mplayer, the video generally played smoothly but there were many
times were it would slow down noticeably. i could see it slow down to only a few
frames per second during the explosion scene of episode 1.
windos media player- plays the first few seconds of video and then stops. i'm
not sure why.
with this setup, i'm able to play the videos smoothly without any slowdown. even
in the explosion scene, wmp classic maintained 23-24 fps (had status up).
however, you have to disable the internal codecs in wmp classic.
here's how to setup windows media player classic (after installing coreavc)
1. open wmp classic, select view > options and then select internal filters.
2. disable every file type. the goal is to force core avc to run as the playback
filter.
3. select external filters. select "core avc video decoder". select "prefer" in
the radio box.
4. restart wmp classic and open the downloaded hd x264 video.
indeed it is not hard to run these files. the quality is excellent and worth the
extra space, in my opinion. 4 eps to a single layer dvd+r, that's only 6 discs,
as somebody mentioned earlier.
download this codec pack, if you want to play *.mkv files :
search after this file with google "combined-community-codec-pack-2006-12-15"
or "k-lite codec pack 2.27"
