bt, british telecom, have already capped torrent speeds down to a couple kb/s.
meaning that if i wanted to
even torrent legally i couldn't.
so ur saying that if for example a game uses a torrent for updates n stuff it would take ages for u to
download it? if thats the case then its sounds very illegal (or atleast it should be)
currently i'm living abroad and frankly i don't even know this country's exact laws governing
downloading torrents, i just assumed it would follow the general eu guidelines.
but at some point i'll be heading home to the uk and this news sucks big time!
even gladder now that i didn't give my precious vote to cameron and brown.
what the bill does is require isps to hand over customer details to copyright holders if the
copyright holders provide them with an ip address, removing the need for a court order. it's the
responsibility of the copyright holder to make the initial claim, and once they've got you they've
got you, no need for further dpi evidence.
the only way that dpi could be of any relevance would be if isps were forced to use it to
investigate infringement themselves. we haven't reached that stage yet. while the door has been left
open for further legislation that could make this a requirement, at present copyright holders have
to find your ip address and provide evidence of infringement before action can be taken.
is there any way of hiding what websites you are using ? ie peer guardian, peerblocker ?
i thought these were supposed to hide these websites from your isp
if you use a blocker, you can't use private trackers such as thebox or torrentday, at least as far as i
understand it.
anyway, it doesn't matter if they prohibit downloading or not. now that the technology is out there, it
will never stop. maybe someday soon some bright spark will come up with a new way to deceive your
isp.
in response to solitair:
yes, i assume full responsibility for the hung parliament ^_^
let's just hope mr long legged cleggy weggy fully understands how important torrents are to his
voters! if not, there are plenty of other parties begging for my vote: animals count (doesn't apply to
mps with their snouts in the trough), the legalize cannabis alliance, the rock 'n' roll loony party,...
