there was a small bug in the releasing-system which changed the file extension
to .avi instead of .mkv as it should be.

wrong: lost.s03e06.720p.hdtv.x264-ctu.avi
right: lost.s03e06.720p.hdtv.x264-ctu.mkv

just change it and it should be fine

i am wondering about that, too. this is the first 720p i've seen here.

and would somebody mind a few words about how those 720p.mkv files are better
than the 700mb hr avi versions? i am guessing higher resolution, but is it worth
the extra 350mb?

this was basicly a test to see how people would react and then we make the
decision if we release more of 720p releases.

i thought .mkv files were containers which can hold different audios/subtitles + 1
video; kind of like a dvd format but for pcs. does it mean that your/they going
to add different language subtitles too the releases? other than the above i
can't understand why to go to the extra step in putting it in a .mkv.

my reaction is that top shows like:

lost:: 350mb (395,395 d/ls), hr (16,678 d/ls), 720p (3,804 d/ls)

prison break:: 350mb (239,819 d/ls), hr (8,071 d/ls)

24:: 350mb (250,000 d/ls), hr (6,000 d/ls) est.

heroes:: 350mb (184,198 d/ls), hr (10,565 d/ls)

smallville:: 350mb (109,406 d/ls), hr (6,636 d/ls)

should be in 720p .x264 ac3-5.1. you realize that you would actually be
dominating private sites and usenet services on tv eps if you do, cause if i
recall beside music,porn,anime,movies the reason for private/(pay) trackers is
for the 720p releases. be prepared for more hits on the site as more
people talk ^_^. get some volunteers to photo shop some good banners.

one downfall is people with shit computers will hate .x264 encodes.

as for the size, it takes me roughly 25mins (500kbs-730kbs) to download hrs and
i'm sleeping as my comps on and when i get back from work i watch them @ 7. so
1gig files or 1.4gigs is really nothing to me and worth the size/release time to
download. maybe the next gen is hd bt streaming (with lil random pieces) ^_^

720 is 1280x720 compared to hr's 960x540.
resolution aside, providing you have a decent monitor/hdtv, the clarity is
absolutely amazing. just shows how h264/avc/mpeg-4 part10 offers much better
compression compared to xvid (mpeg-4 part2).
i'm sure you're aware that h264 is the compression codec for bluray/hd-dvd.

other than the above i can't understand why to go to the extra step
in putting it in a .mkv.

besides being able to hold multiple audio/subtitle streams, mkv container does
usually bring about a reduction in filesize as well, compared to avi
container when used with mpeg4 codecs due to avi's large overhead.
the avi container is outdated, and it has only managed to survive this long
due to 'hacks' eg. packed bitstream for b-frames support... see here for a
comparison of the different containers....

@mcfly, you're nto the only one. i only grab 350 as well. of course like many
people i'm watching them on a standard def tv so there's really no point. i'd
be happy to see 720p files getting distributed. eventually i'll want them
right now i don't care though.

it would be nice to see it establish itself with a smaller community and then
grow as more people get hd tv's. rather then wait till everyone has hd and
then try and figure out how to do it when demand is at it's peak.

crazyguy: good idea, but why taking an old episode of lost and not something
newer? like, i don't know, the latest supernatural? 🙂
