i remember reading the books again and again when i was younger, so kind of excited to see how
much it stays true to the books!

so how gay is this show? will it do anything for someone who absolutely loves true blood and
absolutely hates twilight (so basically a normal guy)?

well from reading wikipedia, tv.com, and watching this episode, i see a little potential.
the description comes off as very twilightish, but the books(via wiki) seem to go in different
direction and a faster pace than twilight. they have seemed to have changed a substantial amount
from the books, not sure if they are going to completely veer off the main plot, like true blood, or
just change small things, i am going to guess the former for now. it could also go south into
twilight angst at the drop of a hat, although if they keep the faster pacing then it might be bearable.
my summary if that is what you want:
the show is about a girl named elena, whose parents are killed in a \"car accident\"[vampire] over
summer. she goes back to school and there is a new mysterious kid stefan(vampire). elena resembles
stefan\'s lover and maker katherine. stefan\'s bother damon comes back to town also, he was also
turned by and in love with katherine. so they are goin to start fighting over her and what not,
stefan is the good one who doesn\'t drink blood, while damon doesn\'t seem to have much regard for
anything(and possibly was the one who killed elena\'s parents). as for the vampire lore, they can
walk in daylight, although only when wearing a special ring, and also can apparently make and
control fog, the rest seems standard vampire fare.
in the end the only similarity with true blood would be vampires, but i am going to give it a few
eps at least. the main girl is rather attractive, opposed to the twilight girl who is perpetually
sad and needs to ear a god damn sandwich(or ten). then again i watch a lot of stuff, some good, and
some bad.

not too bad. my daughter loves it. similar to twilight. call it what you want kiddie version or not i
enjoyed it as did she. true blood not as much.. but then again i find true blood not that good to begin
with. i thought it was going to be this suspensful show ... its a farce .. all about sex and such def not a
show for kids or teenagers there fore my daughter will not be comparing twilight or vampire diaries to
that show. too bad.. but hey thats my own personal opinion.

wow. that was disappointing. yes, twilight was a very obvious influence, just not replicated
nearly as well though. true blood this is not, but of course it doesnt have to be. even my nine
year old daughter asked me to turn it off after ten minutes because she thought it was "lame".
i'll give it a couple of episodes to see whether they morph into their game, but really, such huge
potential, so much imagination to work with and this is the best they can do - not something i would
want on my cv.

wow! this to me seems like a cross between a really bad version of twilight and the crow. it seemed
to last forever. i kept thinking it was over and all of a sudden there was more, and more, and more
i too will watch it just to see how it goes for a few eps. but not pleased by the 1st episode at all!
and to the person who said that the girl in twilight needs to eat a sandwich or 10 compared to the girl
in this show? i see no difference in either of their bodies. they are all shaped like young boys, via
some breasts (on some). i give it a 4 out of 10

yeah... it was slow was what i found... but the majority of pilots are slow... i will give it my
customary 3 episodes to judge how it actually is...

in reference to this being a ripping off twilight etc, the vampire diaries were first published in 1991
and twilight was published in 2005...
and twilight was published in 2005...
