I have to navigate settings and change aspect ratio, then change it back to watch anything else ?
I'd rather reencode so I can watch it any other time or give it to anyone else without having to do your dipsh1t menu

The black borders can be removed with fmpeg
ffmpeg -i 1920x1080.mkv -vf crop=1920:800:0:140 -acodec copy -vcodec hevc 1920x800.mkv

The vid can also be scaled to a new size at the same time
ffmpeg -i 1920x1080.mkv -vf crop=1920:800:0:140,scale=-1:720 -acodec copy -vcodec hevc 1728x720.mkv

The first mkv is the input file name, the last mkv is the output file name.

It is easy and fast to change the aspect ratio of a file without having to re-encode.
ffmpeg -i input.mkv -vcodec copy -acodec copy -scodec copy -aspect 16:9 output.mkv

It takes just a few moments and is only limited by the disc bandwidth, because it copies all the data 1-to-1. Only the container header data that stores the aspect ratio is changed.

Then the file is correct every time it is played, and no need to futz around with menus and settings in a playback device each time. Do once and it is done forever. All the people in the family can successfully play it on their devices and not have to ask for support on how to fiddle with their playback settings to get it to look correct.
