it is based off a michael crichton book. it stars benjamin bratt, rick
schroder, christa miller, eric mccormack, and andre braugher. from imdb,
"an entire town is killed by a mysterious virus brought to earth by a returning
satellite. a search through the town reveals two survivors: a baby and an old
man. why the virus spared them could provide the key for immunizing the
populace. a crack team of scientists isolates themselves with the survivors in
an underground laboratory, and now they only have a few days to find a cure
before the world is destroyed."
this might be the correct tvrage link h**p://www.tvrage.com/shows/id-16761
although on there is says "network: a&e (usa)" when this rip is from a uk source
(but it could of just aired in both countries)
this also appears to be completely free of any watermarks during the show and no
voice over in the credits
i havent checked the file itself yet, but on foxtel cable in australia, it
aired at 8.30pm sunday night on the showcase channel. if this is a rip of
that broadcast, i am not sure. part 2 is due to air next sunday night.
interesting. i hope it's not as bad as the above poster says. then again, this
is a perfect example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." the original film
was a terrifying masterpiece of cinema. truly haunting and tense with suspense.
i never read the book, so don't know if the original film departed from it
much, though. if it did, and if this new version held more true, i'd still very
likely lump it in with things such as the remake of the shining, which was ok,
and much closer to the text, but still virtually boring when compared to
kubrik's adaptation.
... so don't know if the original film departed from it much,
though.
according to wikipedia
(h**p://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/the_andromeda_strain_(film)) the original 1971
film follows the book very closely. which is not to say that doing so is
necessarily a good thing; witness the miniseries of the langoliers.
neither do i suggest that newer is (or isn't) better. has anyone
actually viewed this new version?
