how do i watch this file. my dvd player plays almost everything but this file

either convert the mkv to avi (or other format supported by your dvd player), or
use something like convertxtodvd to convert the file to a viewable dvd.
a quick google search will find you convertxtodvd, and frankly, it is a terrific
utility.
or, you can convert to avi with any number of utilities. google for 'convert
mkv' and you will find what you seek at the top of the list of responses from
google.
if you have a notebook, why not just output your video to your tv? no
converting needed that way.

why download the hd version if it's only to be converted to a low-res dvd version ?
it's a waste of time, take jericho.s02e07.hdtv.xvid-lol (350 mb).
