from wikipedia:

"the no. 1 ladies' detective agency is a series of nine novels (as of 2008) by
rhodesian-born author alexander mccall smith. the eponymous agency is located
in modern-day gaborone, capital of botswana. its founder is a fictional
botswana woman, mma precious ramotswe, who features as the stories'
protagonist and main detective.

the episodic novels are as much about the adventures and foibles of different
characters as they are about solving mysteries. they must be read in order of
writing as, although each book is complete in itself, each book follows on
from the previous book.

a tv series of 13 episodes is to be produced by the bbc to be shown on bbc one
in the uk and on hbo in the us. an hour and a half long pilot for the series
was broadcast on bbc one on 23 march 2008 (easter sunday) with filming of the
remaining episodes to commence during the summer."

not my cup of tea (i hate those bbc detective series), but the botswana angle
looks interesting.

absolutely brilliant. ten stars.

anthony minghella's and richard curtis's teaming have captured the essence of
the book. the casting is outstanding. completely captivating and hilarious.

a fitting tribute to the late mingella.

this proves that the bbc can still make great productions: they should stop
producing boring costume drama ( like lark rising to candleford) and
concentrate on good modern literature. there's loads of it out there. dickens
is dead.

it was well worth the d/l and for sure gonna watch the other episodes!
although that accent reminds me of my first days talking english, lol!

but i do like the botswana-type and i love african art/colors, and the main
character is so lovely!

unfortunately, there's a long wait. next episodes (12 in all) are not
scheduled until 2009. must read the books again whilst waiting!

i thoroughly enjoyed this pilot. it's good to see (along with some other bbc3
dramas) that my tv licence (with the upkeep of an antenna or two), is being put
to good use for a change!
although i'm not a huge fan of alexander mccall smith's books this came across
great as tv. it's a shame anthony minghella will sadly not be around to direct
the forthcoming episodes.
well done bbc, for a change!

p.s down with bbciplayer! (shame on you!)

a great show. very entertaining. touching, funny, drama without being overwrought. jill scott is
amazing, as is anika rose. not a bad performance in the lot, actually.

i had no idea what to expect; knew nothing about this. i downloaded it because of the lack of material
resulting from the writers' strike.

completely surprised, it fascinated me. i can't wait to see another episode.

thanks to whoever uploaded and seeded this.
