so this is what you "learned" from a tv program? you can watch a 20 minute
show and know what all cops are like?
let me tell you one of the things that i learned from watching tv.
all european's are soccer hoodlum's that riot and burn because their team had a
bad call against it. then, the cops come in and starting beating people with
sticks.
generalizations are called generalizations because they are generally true... no
one can say that this or that police officer is good or bad, or this or that
football fan will behave like an idiot but it does represent something about a
culture that glorifies that type of behaviour, both the bad policeman and the
football hooligan...
the fact that this tv show constantly shows the police acting contrary to their
own guidelines (such as the guideline about not stepping on someones throat when
they are handcuffed) yet each and every episode shows the brutality against the,
usually, dark skinned malfeasant does say something about yankee culture and
society... ....and the fact that it is shown so clearly on television and no one
says anything about it is just plain weird... or perhaps that no one watches tv
on saturday night!
