i too have noticed the volume is much lower than other files (using
media center
to play), its not a big deal but definitely annoying having to put my sound
system up to 25-30 when normally 10-15 is enough...
so anyway, apart from the trolls and cpt jack facts, hows the encode on this one?
it ran smoothly for me. played it in vlc player. as usual, the sound effects
where way too loud in comparision to the sound. but other then that, the encode
is great.
if the audio is like the first couple ripped by fov, it is strangely muted, the
interesting thing is if you get the pdtv river rips, the audio is louder, and
you get less variation between the background music and dialogue.
on the downside river seems to use a lesser bit rate on sound, so slightly
better pic but only around 113kbs audio compared to 128 or so on the hdtv rips.
i'd say it's down to the source, maybe, when you watch the hr rip of episode
one, it's not as bad, but still there...
the hdtv encodes have ac3 5.1 audio as source and so this has to be converted to
2 channels. maybe not enough emphasis is being given to the center channel,
however it's strange that it isn't an issue for most people.
.. and the more emphasis given to center (voice) channel, the less seperation
there will be between the left and right channels. i'm sure people would
complain about that too.
at least for the two first episodes the sound volume was out of
balance. did
not notice anything at this one.
first two had to watch with hand on volume control as you can barely hear the
talking but the post edited title music is playd with full volume.
yes i noticed this(since i always watch torchwood at night and with a headset).
thankfully there aren't a lot of sound effects in torchwood, so i just lower the
volume a little when you can tell there's going to be a "in your face!" moment
with the effects. tried fixing it in settings, but i grew tired of it when i
didn't find a solution.
i tend to get the madmartha rips of torchwood and dr who. always spectacular
rips, never had a problem with them. (look for the torrents with [mm] at the
end). usually awesome speeds too, even on my crappy connection.

me too. it's better quality. but i always download the first one that's
uploaded. not that big of a difference tbh.
since my dvd player for my tv plays avi, mpg, divx, mp4 i use my surround sound
system to compensate the low audio levels for the dialog. just turn up the
center speaker volume (it handles the dialog/voice) and turn down the the main
volume (rt left and rear speakers) until the dialog/voice is louder than the
music and sfx.
yeah actually to update, the first two episodes were way out of balance between
music and dialogue etc, i also had a hand on the volume control for those, but
this rip was fine, balance was good, perfect rip.
and as for the suggestion to get hr rips, nice in theory, but the release/seed
groups have let us down there this year, so far even though the scene released
hr rips, you can only find a hr of the first episode, and that was done by a
person and not any site or group.
actually it's been weird for releases lately, you see like 4 release versions
on some stuff, and barely one for others, i suppose it's popularity based, but
it sucks if you won't touch dsr's, or just want a hr of something like this.
