ok, apologies to all over the last few days. we had some signal glitches on
various channels (abc and usahd networks)
and didn't catch them while encoding. now, to the haters, screw you, we're a
newer group and have had to work out some issues.
other grps have had to do the same thing in the past (you know who you are). we
won't release something we know to be bad.
to those grps that have made friends with us, greetings! proper us if need be,
because we'd do the same thing, but don't
be an ass about it.

why do you groups release the best shows in some of the lowest quality formats.
i will stand up and applaud the first group that puts quality ahead of being "1st".

the wire should be a least an hr release - hell, it should be a 1.2gb mkv file
for how good it is.

i'll wait for something better

...can't connect to the tracker (http://eztv.sladinki007.eu:60500/announce) -
timeout error - does anybody else have the same problem or maybe someone know
how to fix that?

hi

yes i have the same problem with the timeout. that happens to me now and again
on sladinki trackers. it usually goes away after some time. don't know how to
fix it or what the reason is. anyone else some solution?

@edmundgerber:

the problem isn't the scene release groups on this one -- it's hbo. you can't
release an hr rip without an hr source. while i agree that the wire is one of
the best shows ever, it's never been available in hi-def. even the
retail dvds are standard def. hbo finally realized they had a great show for
season 5 but by then the show's creator decided to keep the look consistent with
previous seasons.

if you care about the specifics, here is a quote (i'd include a link as the
article is fantastic, but external links are not allowed here): and perhaps
the final contrast to the rest of high-end episodic television, the wire for
each of its five seasons has been produced in good old fashioned 4 x 3 standard
definition. dp dave insley recalled, "the reason the show has stayed 4x3 is
because david simon thinks that 4x3 feels more like real life and real
television and not like a movie. the show's never been hd, even 4x3 hd and that
(sd) is how it is on the dvds. there is no 16x9 version anywhere."...

insley explained, "when the show started 2001 / 2002 they framed it for 16 x 9
as a way of future-proofing. then a couple of seasons ago, right before season 4
began shooting, there was a big discussion about it and after much discussion --
david, nina, joe chappelle, the producers, the dps -- and we discussed what
should be the style of the show. david made the decision that we would stay with
4x3. the dps pretty much defined the look to be what it is now. and it's been
consistent for the past two seasons."

so, edmundgerber, if you want to wait for "something better", you're going to be
waiting for a very long time -- the show has always been broadcast in low
quality standard def and a higher def version will likely never be available.

thanks for the explanation, cabana bob.

i must have got my hands on some misnamed dvdrips in the past, because i could
have sworn they were better quality.

the leaked episode (at least the first ep) was very good quality considering the
source.

misnamed maybe, but the dvdrips avail are a better quality than the tv broadcast
ones... due in part, i would guess, to the bigger file size... so, yeah the
1.2gb mkv is clearly out of the question, but a repeat of last weeks 550mb sized
rip makes sense...

crimson did an hr 1.2 gig mkv last week. personally, i'm not gonna bother, an
sd rip is never going to look perfect, but it's out there if you want it bad
enough.

i doubt groups will bother with it every week, though.

i did watch an x264 version of the wire last week, file size was 1.23 gb, it's
posted all over newsgroups but it was in normal ratio not widescreen ...
