saints already released this special when it aired in the us but for the uk
broadcasts many american cultural references were replaced with british cultural
references. for example, in the scene after the opening credits, in the us
version the kramer dolls are selling better and in the uk version the jane goody
dolls are selling better. i haven't watched the whole episode but according to
comments from otherpeople there are many other places where cultural references
were replaced.

here is the uk version for those people who want to see the differences.

katie couric was swapped for kate adie when talking about prestigious female
journalists.

i saw the hbo version and was wondering why they were talking about katie
couric, american idol and richard simmons on such a british show. there being
two different versions explains it... 🙂 the us version also omits a reference
to eastenders, and somebody wears a sigourney weaver t-shirt instead of a
victoria wood shirt.

i didn't understand the sigourney weaver reference in the us version at all
