102 people fired from The Office

that's what she said. man. i hope this gets settled sooner than later. so would
the people fired be hired back once it is resolved, or would they look for new
people? the people that got fired probably can't just sit around and wait and
will have to find some kind of work, but would they be sought out after the
strike is over? it also must be hard to go find some other work, cause they have
no idea when this will end. could be tomorrow could be a year. very tough
situation they are in.

oh booo hooooo life sucks. although i do feel genuinely sorry for all those
people affected by the strike i still had to read the amount of people
associated with one show and wonder why it needed (for example:- 3 accountants
who do nothing but count what - losses ! and, 8 drivers!) so many extra people
and, if everyone realises that certain people are getting the short end of the
stick - writers, stylists etc then sorry, the unions must be doing a fairly
shitty job of working out deals for their employees if a strike is finally
called and a majority is overlooked.
there are no winners in a strike and there will will be people who will lose
their homes, cars and lives - it comes with the territory. why act all surprised
when this is the life they have chosen - tv/film land is purely based on making
money.
of course they will be hired back after the strike is over thats how it works
but until then they are on their own.
good luck to all but do not play innocent victim - this has been known for well
over a year so people could have prepared.

since when do you know how to run a television show?
how do you know they dont need 8 drivers
and do you not realize that the office is just 1 of many shows
so lets say there is 50 shows canciled so thats over 500 people out of work then
if it drags on for along time movie production will shut down and god know who
many people will be put out of work.

the strike is going to have serious fallout but the question has to be if the
writers didn't strike then what was their alternative when the studios refused
to budge on the negotiaions? what other weapon did they have in their armoury?
it seems to me the studios ramped up the stakes in the expectation that the
writers would break first, and they weren't worrying much about the fate of
all the 'little people'.

if they'd planned their action for the start of the season.. ie. refusing to
return to work rather than walking out.. i believe would have had less effect on
other members of the production but still put them in a strong position with the
networks. once a strike is called it effectively turns the whole situation into
a lose-lose imo.. because even if the networks cave in, the interim isn't going
to help anyone and if it carries on too long will outweigh any positives.

anyone have real source info for this? isn't this another article stemming from
the o&a fake out tuesday?

a little known fact: when the coal miners went on strike for "x" number of
months everybody thought "look how much money they lost; they'll never get that
back." however nobody realized that in their new contract they demanded and got
a repayment schedule for lost wages due to the strike. pretty nifty, eh. they
didn't lose a thing.

evil has been winning for quite some time now, they will have a victory before
the good can even fight back. the system is failing in front of our eyes. gas
