i'm at the 50/50 mark of whether i like it or hate it. though i think its funny
that it is called aliens in america when its done in canada (filmed in
vancouver)...heh heh
granted calling it aliens in america gives it that broad sense of being anywhere
in america, if you take america to mean anywhere on the two continents. so,
technically still calling it aliens in america is correct since canada is apart
of america* (see note at bottom). they couldn't have gone with the longer title:
"aliens in america, but by america, we mean north america and quite frankly we
mean canada but it is supposed to by a u.s. show so don't pay attention that its
filmed in canada after all, most of the actors and writers are from the u.s.
with the exception of raja and a couple of canadian actors...so its aliens in
america, see"
hehehe
some parts of the show seem meh and some seem good, though i think i would enjoy
this more if i was a teenager.
anyways, thanks for the release, release group.
note:
*north america not the united states so don't even think of flaming me because
you want to quibble over something as silly as semantics.
well i must confess i like that moze got boobs actually i think in her case
boobs should be capitalized
but it is a little over the top cloyingly sweet overly romanticized caricature
of a pakistani....
yeah yeah i know muslims are people too but the show goes to far the other way
in trying to pretend that there is no problem with islamic radicalism/pakistan...
portraying the problem as just another white american prejudice....
and just for the record as a brown person who is not muslim i do resent when
people try to suggest that the suspicion or animosity muslims experience is only a
colour issue.
i thought this show had promise but after the first episode it kinda went
downhill for me. not to mention as someone who knows a thing or two about
pakistani muslims: they do not walk around naked in the locker room.
i mean come on, i thought the writers had done their research. its forbidden for
a female, let alone male see you naked as a muslim. its unfortunate that the
writers wrote that scene since they do have some funny material in that show.
oh and to pathomancer, the writers arent trying pretend that there is no problem
with radicalism. their just not bigging it up because they realise perhaps that
just when the ira terrorists were around it didnt mean that it was part of the
irish mainstream. during that period shows were on, about the irish, that
completely ignored the whole thing about the ira....and the reason? because its
not representative of the irish community.
plus at the same time, i would say i think the current tv networks already run
enough shows about radicals (e.g. 24, sleeper cell, etc). aliens in america is
just simply trying to differentiate itself.
aia is by far the best new show on tv. it is hysterically funny! also, it
points out how stupid americans are most of the time (yes, i am an american so
i can say that.)
as far as it getting stuff wrong - who cares? the show is meant to be a
comedy not a historical drama. also, like any other religion there are
different ways to practice it. really people, get a grip.
oh, and of course, organized religion ftl, anyway.
contrary to what some people might think.. that it's being racist and stuff.. i
see a lot of the same things that the pakastani kid is portraying in real life.
back in grade school (around 7th grade).. i actually knew an indian kid who
would be the only kid who took off all his clothes after pe to shower hehe.
obviously no one commented on it when it happened but it was weird hehe. i
realize this is only one comparison but i'm just refraining from mentioning the
others atm.
