matroska is a bit esoteric in general, because without an appropriate splitter
(which 99% of the population doesn't have) you can't watch the video, yet it's
just the container format.
techically though, matroska should be superior to other container formats like
avi, and that's probably why groups use it these days. still, most rips contain
only audio and video (no subtitles or multiple audio streams or whatnot) thus
matroska is probably overkill, plain old mp4 would work just as well.
just install zoomplayer, let it download filters for you and autoconfigure them
for you and you'll be able to play 99.99% of videos out there.
mkv is fine, and as rutavibaja said is superior to the avi container. works
fine with media player classic + ffdshow without having to download a matroska
splitter, which is nice.
hopefully we'll see more 720p rips this season, avi or mkv, because in my
current living situation i'm stuck with 4:3-480i; and house has some damn good
art direction and cinematography that i miss out on every time i watch an ep.
this is awesome! i'm connecting my macbook to hd projector, and it looks unbelievable! thank you so
much for posting this, i would love to get future episodes in this format. i appreciate the effort
involved.
