holy crap, i really thought this was going to be a lame version of quantum leap
(which i love), but after getting more than 10 minutes into it i realized this
was completely different.
but oh boy, the last 30 seconds made the show for me, i'm gonna be watching this
all the time!

wow i really liked that!
yes some things you could see coming but if the main storyline is good, then
this could be a real keeper. the whole bit about livia and her seeing him etc
could turn out really good.
i'm hoping this keeps going as i liked the actors and the characters.
-------------
about the actual cap though, my sound kept going out of sync every 5 min or so
but i would just rewind and it would be fine. strange, did anyone else have the
same problem on divx?

i liked the show, although it is quantum leap retooled as a drama (not really
sci-fi) the whole idea of supporting a family, and holding down a life while
having these unbelievable "episodes" that you can't control gets a bit of the
spiderman (the movie) charm into the mix.
i agree that it's nothing original, but its a good rework drawing on several
sources.
i only had one real peeve: product placement. the show must be solely apple
sponsored. here are the (non-subtle) mentions of the iphone i spotted:
1. the iphone has bluetooth (1980's massive cell phone scene)
2. the iphone's keyboard is unbelievably fast, even when you're not hitting the
letters it's typing (elevator scene)
3. the iphone has pretty internet
4. even when you're not actively using wifi or the cell network, it will pop up
a screen that keeps you from accessing the data already cached on the phone,
just to notify you that the "network connection was lost"
5. the iphone shows clear and fast streaming video of stuff that isn't breaking
news, without any reference to format limitations on features (this scene wasn't
even necessary, it existed solely to show off the iphone. it would have been
more believable if the video were shown on a pc, or simply referenced.)
all in all, what i got from the pilot was that you can't save the world by
jumping back in time without dropping $599 , oops i mean $399, on a phone.
it may just be a gimmicky way to replace the hand-held computer from quantum
leap, but where's the invisible hologram?

by the way, the songs were (i think) \"living a mystery\"? and \"champagne
supernova\".

for some reason i get the feeling this show is going to go downhill fast. i
predict it is going to hit you over the head with christian morality much like
they hit you over the head with the iphone stuff. they're also going to tie into
9/11 (in case you didn't pick up on the amazingly obvious fact that his "dead"
girlfriend was supposed to be on one of those planes), and his time traveling
will somehow be iran's (yes iran) fault.
there will also be the sports gambling episode, except somehow he'll lose.
but maybe i'm just cynical.

you really think you're quite clever pointing out the incredibly obvious don't you?

(in case you didn't pick up on the amazingly obvious fact that
his "dead"
girlfriend was supposed to be on one of those planes.
his kid is too old for that to work, and besides, the "journeywoman's" plane
went down in the water, her body wasn't found
but the 911 impact is gunna play havoc,
when i first heard the storyline i saw the instant flaw of a current (2007)
time traveller going back beyond 2001, without dealing with that event. but
after watching, they have already warned us of the upcoming "rules" of the
warp, when the journeywoman said 'stick to your subject, and don't fuck with
anything else' (or something to that effect)
but hey, they did show the twins on the cover of the newspaper . . . .

just watched this, i liked the show a lot.
it is almost nothing like quantum leap.
it is on nbc, so unlike most really good shows on other channels *cough fox/abc
*cough, it has a chance of not being canceled.
