yes, you're absolutely right, but they are the dsr releases, that come out
first. the ones i have been getting are the hd releases, which are a couple of
weeks behind.

any comments on the quality of these bia hd releases?

the first few episodes were abysmal - have they gotten any better?

is there really a difference between a hdtv rip and a dsr rip that is the same
file size? personally as long as it isn't like watching tv from an antenna its
good enough for me. i've not really payed much attention but i think i have some
hdtv and some dsr of other shows not from the same encoder but i don't think i
really noticed a difference.

yep for a start the dsr is missing a 3rd of the picture as its only 4/3 and not
widescreen 16/9. this is capped of sky one hd, if you ever watched one with the
credits sky ones name pops up in them. also the hr and 720p are capped but are
private sites and newsgroups only jack sparrows don't always have them if ya
want even better quality.

unfortunately all episodes have not a good video quality.
the image seems constantly lose focus and this is annoying.

this is the divx drf analyzer report for ep. 8 (standard deviation is too high.
maybe this the key to figure out the problem)

divx drf analyzer v0.9.5 report!
file name: d:\divx\the4400.hdtv.s4\the.4400.s04e08.hdtv.xvid-bia.avi

there are no frame drops ( no drops is better )

the filesize should be larger!

dsr is certainly watchable but hdtv is considerably better... it's certainly
noticeably different watched on a computer monitor but even more so if you burn
to dvd or stream to a tv. try looking at some of the recent kyle xy threads for
links to sample pics of the same scenes, comparing hdtv vs dsr and 16:3 vs 4:3
i've also seen sample pics in the past comparing pdtv of eureka to the dsrs but
they was last season which i don't think were bia.

depends on whether you think the difference is worth the wait or a second
download if you grab the dsr first... and that depends on the show because the
wait for some shows from dsr to hdtv/pdtv can be anything from a few days to six
months.

s04e07 hdtv: h**p://www.bt-chat.com/details.php?id=17972

even if the dsr's were widescreen the hdtv rips would still be much better because
dsr source = 480x480i or 640x480i (360i height if 16:9 lb) couple mbit mpeg-2
video and 2ch 224-256kbps mp2 audio
uk hdtv source = 1920x1080p ~17mbit h264 and 5.1 384kbps dolby digital

as far as 350mb re-encode what does that mean....
even though the audio on both is ~128kbps vbr mp3, it still sounds better when
being re-encoded from the hd source (more bass and clarity). as far as the
video, it will have better more accurate color and indeed noticably sharper and
better quality picture.
but of course an important thing is the 350mb are not hdtv, they are hdtv rips
as in the source is hdtv

thanks - i just won't bother with any of these bia releases - they obviously
don't know what they're doing, i don't know how they've managed to get to
episode 8 without learning how to improve their technique.
