after all the good shows that hbo canceled, i sure hope they give john the boot
- zeus, this show was stupid! enough with the riddles already. its like all the
actors from deadwood needed a job, except olyphant, so they came up with this
brainchild!
it doesn't matter how clueless i get about what the hell is going on.. i'm dying
for this show's release week after week. it's so quirky and bizarre its just
amazing to watch.
i know i\'m just saying an obvious thing here so i apologise in advance but this
show really sucks. i mean, i\'ve seen some pretty lame and pretentious shows
before but this one is the worst in a while. it really seems to insist upon
itself. it\'s all like \"ooooh, i\'m so mysterious and quirky and i\'m constantly
going to keep reminding you that i\'m mysterious and quirky.\" the sad thing is
that all this attempted mystery doesn\'t keep you guessing at all. it tries to
make you wonder about the characters pasts etc but you just don\'t care. my
cringe muscles really got a work out with this one.i feel the same way about
meadowlands too. deadwood started off with some promise but at the end of the
day all that\'s really left is an understanding of the minutae of life in a
goldmining town without any plot. again, sorry for stating the obvious and
thanks for the upload.
in some ways i agree, it was a little pretentious. however part from that it is
amazing and has tons more depth than most shows. just watch flash gordon and
then watch this. you'll see what i mean.
this was a great tv show. hbo deserve kudos for being this cutting-edge
every character was perfectly delineated by his or her bizarre stilted
dialogue, then directed to deliver it in old-fashioned over-the-top "method"
style, so the nature of the character and his (or her) emotions and motivations
was apparent to the audience. the only "straight" actor was luis guzman -- one
of the great character actors -- in this case a kind of chorus or anchor . this
was great teevee folks, and i'll miss it. only a network like hbo can afford
to be this edgie. really. jeez. some things i know, and some things i don't know.
i found it truly painful watching this show. i couldn't believe one family
could get that messed up. i kept waiting for the show to say something new
about the nature of god. instead it meandered around the issue. the whole
parallel to the story of the return of jesus was much better done in "dogma."
the one thing this show did do was make me pity alex baldwin.
this was one of the best shows i've seen. is it really getting canceled. i mean,
the sopranos sucked (opionated) and they kept that show going for ages.
i'm really getting sick and tired of my favourite shows being flushed. "john"
is an excellent series - edge of my seat stuff just to hear subtle humour and
wisdom that i might otherwise miss. it is clever, confusing, raw and "real" and
i'm really pissed that its over. people don't seem to like shows that leave you
having to think to fill the gaps - john doesn't fill the gaps and leaves the
viewer to insert their own story into john to lift the sagging parts - its
freaking interactive on an emotional level, but it takes a little work in order
to interact. how does a show like this die while big brother and the like
survive? must drill hole in forehead and let brains drip out so i'll like the
mainstream mindlessness...
