adam baldwin huh? so, the show is doomed to cancellation
inside of 8 episodes
then... 😛
don't get me wrong, i really like baldwin actually, but it seems that whenever
he gets majorly involved in a show, it's doomed to cancellation, and sooner
rather than later. i mean look at the evidence: day break, pulled and cancelled
after only five episodes or so aired. the inside, same thing. talk to me, never
makes it past pilot. angel, unexpectedly cancelled despite strong ratings after
he joins the show in recurring role during what turns out to be the show's
final season. firefly, show is aired out of order, then pulled and cancelled
prior to all eps being shown. x-files, joins show in recurring role, show ends
soon after. the visitor, joined show in recurring role, only half a season of
the show was produced before the plug was pulled. vr5, appears in major role in
the pilot episode, show doesn't survive past mid-season. the cape, thrown into
after midnight airing oblivion and then eventually pulled with several already
produced episodes unaired.
baldwin has the tv kiss of death. can "chuck" escape it? the odds are not
looking good...
having seen them all, i can honestly say that it was never him or his role that
caused the cancellations.
angel was already slated to end when he was cast as marcus hamilton. joss
picked him so that angel had a believable foe at the end and so that the show
would go out with a bang. x-files? well, that was doomed the minute mulder
stopped being a central character. and we all know the reasons why firefly was
cancelled (f*cking fox). the inside was a summer series that had the bad luck
to be up against a surprising hit (one of those dance reality shows). and talk
to me didn't make it to air, but i suspect that's because of standoff (the
premise was too similar).
the less said about vr5 and the visitor the better. not much redeemable about
them except for his participation.
sure, after over 30 years in the business he's been in some stinkers, but let's
not forget that he was also in ordinary people, my bodyguard, independence day,
the patriot, full metal jacket, wyatt earp and next of kin. all hits in their
time. i dare say that id4 and fmj still are.
he's also had other memorable guest starring roles like fred haise in from earth
to the moon, commander michael ranier in both jag and ncis, and col. dave dixon
in stargate sg-1 (joe and the boys at bridge loved him and until they decided to
cast joe flannigan in sga, that was a role originally written for an older
officer and it was supposed to be him).
and don't forget the voice-work he's done on static shock, invader zim, the
justice league unlimited, and the jackie chan adventures. plus he's the new
voice for the animated superman movie (the director also did the previous
superman cartoon and wished that he'd had adam all this time for the part).
so, yeah--there's a curse that seems to follow him. but it has nothing to do
with his acting ability.
dude. he never said that baldwin cant act. were you high when you gushed on and on
about balwin's acting history? guy can act, but he sure has bad luck. chill dude.
finally got around to watching this and thoroughly enjoyed it - similar premise
to reaper in that goofy guy working in a dead-end job with a dorky best friend
ends up with 'powers'.
