considering the us version had about 3 funny skits in total (kevin nealon for
one... f'in hilarious), i'm gona go out on a limb and say most definitely. also
you can check out some of the au skits on youtube. it's also better when you
don't know all the actors on the show so you don't expect as much. i haven't
downloaded it yet but i would put money on the fact that it's better.
i missed the 1st 1/2 of the show and was pissed off because steven curry (the
castle, wog boy) is hilarious!!
and yes it is better than the u.s version because they get funny comedians on
and are picky about it, unlike the u.s version that just gets any celeb. i mean
oprah?!?!?! she was the worst. clearly out of her comfort zone. (actually now
that i think about it her dismal effort got special mention in this episode)
aussie version is better because the show was started by us and the concept sold
around the world. i have had a glance at an ep or two of the us version, they
took the same scenarios directly from the 1st aus season...these didn't really
translate fantastically well. the us version probably should have tried to do
some sketches better suited to the us audience, imo. but yeah, this was a very
funny episode, i have a sore back at the moment and i was in pain laughing at
josh lawson in the alien sketch...he has managed to hit on women in every sketch
he has done on the show, he is a classic!
the only big difference between the au and us version is the presentation. the
us version was messed up due to the lame (and gay) presentation of david alan
grier and dave foley, while the au version has the really funny shane bourne
(whose jokes are actually funny). also, the au version is clearly a lot
smoother, but that's to expect after 2 seasons. they found their form, and it
shows.
for the rest however, the us and au versions are pretty much the same. the
skids are of the same level, the us and au versions both having some
highlights (but not many). of course the au version has more 'loud humour',
which is to expect from australians (that's why they aren't world players). it
is never really hilarious however, and this au episode only has one funny
skit. download it because there isn't much to download at the moment, but it's
not worth burning to a dvd.
all the humour is in the setup. i've rarely seen any humour from any of the
guests...most of the time the punchline from the guests is "i don't know", "yes"
or "no". i'm always amazed how these comebacks generate a laugh. i guess it's a
good training tool for actors but as a viewer i wish the writers would just fill
in the blank parts of the scripts and make a real show.
