proper reason: other rls is ivtc to 23.976fps when this show has a 25p to
60i telecine (progressive pal to interlaced ntsc) so thus it must be ivtc to
24.975fps by means of using a repal filter. 60 / 1.001 = 59.94. 59.94 / 60 * 25
= 24.975 so thats why its not 25.0 exact. just like usa stuff isn't 24 exact

i guess you need to be into encoding and knowledge of interlacing to understand that

isn't this being ripped from showtime, in which case the framerate of the
broadcast wouldn't actually be 25 (or 24.975)? does the lol release actually
play jerky?

people said the same thing over a year ago when xor propered lol. then notv came
along and made xor look good (but notv improved too)

aaronetc, most of the time yes, but frame rates can be all sorts of rates. all
ntsc source rates are 29.97fps but mean while when fully deinterlaced the
actually frame rate can vary from being 24(common),25,30,50,60(common) and a few
others that are not done.
when playing a usa show on a uk network usually the frame rate is sped up from
24 to 25. but when playing a uk show on a usa network they usually just take
that 25fps rate and keep it the same but telecine it to 60 fields (60i) meaning
to do a series of field/frame repeats so its still 25p but plays at 60i.
bbca does this all the time, i've seen discovery ch do this for a few shows.

my question is, why is a uk made show being played in the usa first?

vi76: it's similar to rome on hbo. showtime provides most of the funding (it's
made in association with channel 4) so they get first run rights.

yes, it does. apparently notv propered lol on the first ep for the same thing. i
never saw the lol version of that one, but the nuke is still standing on orly,
as is this one.

death734's explanation makes sense to me. my initial knee-jerk reaction was the
same as others, notv propering lol!? but it's true, they have improved, and this
is a rather unusual situation that might well have tripped anyone up.

it's not the worst thing i've ever seen, but the lol is definitely jerky.
