sanctuary is a science fiction web series, which premiered on may 14, 2007.
sanctuary stars amanda tapping, christopher heyerdahl, robin dunne, and emilie
ullerup. on february 12, 2007, a teaser was released, and a 5-minute sneak peek
was released on april 30, 2007[1]. the first four of the eight initial webisodes
will be available for free viewing in low resolution on youtube, google video,
and similar sites. access to regular definition and high definition (hd)
versions of these and subsequent webisodes is being sold individually and in
bundles. each webisode is about 15 minutes in duration, with webisodes to be
released about every two weeks.

amanda tapping stars as 157 year old dr. helen magnus, one of the first female
doctors in the royal college during victorian england. she was engaged to jack
the ripper, and also has a daughter by him, ashley. however, ashley does not yet
know that jack is her father. dr. magnus's father started a sanctuary for
supernatural creatures, collected from all over the world. in her work with
these creatures, dr. magnus has acquired her great longevity.

looks promising, most of it is show infront of a green screen. a lot of sg1/sga
and even bsg cast will be guest stars as the show continues. definantly
something to check out!

the official website for this show is sanctuaryforall.com - we at eztv
strongly encourage everyone (yeah, not just the ones that enjoyed this fine
piece of work ;p) to visit their site and support the show by purchasing their
eps! this is a great new way of producing what is essentially television; it is
closer to the future we here in eztv are hoping for than any other current
production. support it. that is all 🙂

it's awesome that you guys are capping sanctuary but if people really like it,
buy the eps. this show's supported thru purchasing webisodes and other stuff
online from sanctuaryforall.com. the producers didn't go to ad companies for
money like nbc or fox do for their shows. no revenue means the show won't
continue.

sanctuary's a whole new kind of show where the viewers can actually steer the
direction of the eps on the forums-etc. tbh i'd love to see it continue and
therefore will be paying for the full hd eps. (also it's got stargate cast
members in it so you know it's gonna be good! :d )

as a strong advocator for downloading free tv via bittorrent, this post may
seem hypocritical but think about it like this... shows on cable networks have
advertisements on them right? it's not like these companies are losing out on
any money just because of torrent. there are still millions of people who are
too stupid to know about eztv that still watch regular old television that'll
have to endure those ads and maybe even buy the product being marketed. we're
watching cable tv thru torrent, just without those annoying jiffy lube ads.

way i figure it, sanctuary's a step in a new direction of online media and it's
only $1.89 per ep anyway. well worth the money.

i have to agree with nxjnighthawk. i had a little money lying around in my
paypal account so i spent the $7 for the four episode bundle. hopefully it's
good. the free trailer looked promising. they make it very easy to buy the
eps. someone knows what they're doing.

of course, if i hadn't seen this post i might never have known about sanctuary.

edit: cool show.

hmmm, the end of tv torrents is nigh - if tv shows start to become more and more
web based, and rely on episodes being purchased by the viewer, it then means no
buyers, no content, so effectively this will shut down tv torrents.

theyre catching on...

the only thing that's getting me about sanctuary (after a quick look through
their primary fan site and their own site) is the "we're the first to do this
ever" now, they might be the first to charge money for an online only show, they
may not be, but http://strangerthings.tv has been going for a few months now,
puts out 30 minutes at a time, and also provides a high def (1080p coming soon
apparently) drm free product.

i'm not affiliated with strangerthings, but yeah, people should give them a look..

they're doing their marketing with a similar approach to cory doctrow, scott
sigler, and all the other authors that release stuff under creative commons..
give the audiance something good for free, and if they enjoy it enough they
might buy a "hard" copy of it later, expecially if it has something cool bundled
with it.
which is much nicer than the whole "people are scum, get money off them before
you let them read your book/watch your show" style of marketing

if this is worth it i'll splice the first 4 webisodes together because 15 minute
time segments is questionable........

yep same thing here, also bought the 4-pack, although i like it alot, i simply
wanna watch the first 4 one's in hd streamed after one another to my tv, because
of the ease and
better sitting possibility's of sitting infront of it basicly hehe and ofcourse
quallity...
wonder how they got the hd feed...

oh yea,
i want 40min episode's of this! 15min is too little, they could atleast bump it
up to 21 minutes..

actually they have the hd version but you have to scroll down when you open
the "store" they have the 4 non hd episodes first then you scroll down and you
see the ones with hd next to them. i did not know that at first and ended
buying the nonhd version.

i posted on their site for them to make it more intuitive so people don't miss
it.

in any case, let me add that truly if you like this go and buy it!!! i gave up
on "network" and "cable" tv and cancelled my subscriptions after sg-1 got the
boot from sci-fi. i have had it and i turned to eztv for my entertainment
needs along with buying the dvd's etc. of the shows i like. (by the way many
thanks eztv for such a great job!)

i am simply fed up with fox/nbc/whatever for their silly reality shows that
they keep making and for cancelling such gems as farscape, firefly, sg-1 etc.

but this new trend of sanctuary exclusive online episodes could be the answer
to those dumb network executives and their decisions to cancel great shows.

if the creators go straight to the fans with direct to dvd (like the next sg-1
and babylon5 movies) or like sanctuary with online episodes, then we can vote
with our wallet to make sure our show gets renewed!

at least sanctuary video file you download does not have any silly "digital
rights media" crap. it is yours to do with it as you please! well done there.

in any case sorry for the long post!

see, you just made my point entirely - the end of tv torrents, because if people
don't pay for the shows they will surely die off, but if people do, they wont
seed them here and then places like eztv will die off.

and im not saying i wouldn't pay for it either, just a point about torrents and
how pay per view episodes of shows will kill places like this off.

if all my shows went like that, id be doomed... but i agree with the guy who
posted after me, the execs are too greedy to miss out on the big bucks.

i'm afraid i don't have the cash to buy these things - dunno how much they are
but still... i definately would if i could as this is superb and i really would
like this to continue! but i would also like to see the torrents continue... =)

this is an absolute first - its been shot like an actual tv show, using hd
cameras and the lot - the video resolution is huge when downloaded - and for it
to be released on the internet! when i heard about this, i never in a million
years expected this (mainly because i didn't read about the hd cameras, just
that it was being made and had tapping in it lol - i cba to read a lot =p)

w00t keep em coming - but buy if you can!!!
