if anyone missed it, that guy at the begining did say "not" after the size comment. i definitely prefer 720p quality over stand alone compatibility. its worth dragging a media pc to a projector for high quality. even if i only had a stdv i would still get the hr for the 5.1 audio. |

because many people don't need the high quality, they just want to see the show. many people don't have hd tvs, so they'd just waste hard drive space, bandwidth and time downloading the bigger versions. then there's the problem with the big versions not playing on many stand-alone dvd players. i hope no one stops making the smaller versions! i myself watch the episode once and delete it then anyway (i just download it because the country where i live is like a year behind on the show, plus everything is aired dubbed which i hate). i honestly don't need superhigh quality versions for that. |

one reason is ftp credits for the groups, another is the huge popularity, another is the 20-30min pre time. (watching lost at 9:40pm est vs 3am-ish for this file), and finally being able to play on divx dvd players. also a lot of shows like bsg (and others labeled dsr and pdtv) can not be this quality because dsr = sd source, pdtv = ed source (enhanced def, 720x480). those bsg rips are as good as you could get for that show at the time until the hdtv rips come out from the uk. i checked out a few dsr's for bsg on a sdtv and they looked the same as if i watched it on directv (usa digital satellite provider, dsr most of the time = digital satellite rip). also like others said, if your going to watch it on a sdtv with a composite/s-video hook up then who wants to download a 1.07gb file (especially with private trackers that have ratio/credit count) when the 350mb looks the same on that tv. argentina, don't worry this site has no influence on the scene and those rips wont stop coming. |

i feel quite ignorant: why is it not possible to have the good quality in an .avi file that could be read on standalone dvd players (and on my media box connected to the tv)? anyway, thank you so much for all these shows. they can be seen only with french voices here, not that i would not understand, it's just not as good ! |

if you have ac3filter (http://ac3filter.net) and still can't get sound: 1. you need the directshow filter (ac3file) if your player uses directshow (e.g., windows media player) - http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php? group_id=66022 2. make sure your ac3filter settings are correct (spdif is checked/unchecked on the main tab if you are/aren't using digital-out to a receiver, and your matrix settings on the mixer tab are configured properly depending on your setup). |

nickele, most stand alone players have a max resolution of 720x480 so even in an avi your out of luck. x264 works best in the mkv container. just drag a computer a to the tv/projector like the other 720p x264/.ts and 1080i/p .ts users do and be happy you get to at least have 720p. |
