to the above poster: only 8 eps in this series??? what the fuck, i was just
starting to enjoy this....is there going to be another season, or is this just a
break?
thats right - only 8 episodes - and it won't be returning.
i'm sure they could drag it out for a few years like they do in the us but it
would be the same old crap every week so why bother.
there will be only 2 seasons (or series in the u.k.). a lot of u.k. shows have shorts seasons. the office,
which was originally a u.k. show, had only a couple of seasons. there are the exceptions to the rules like
the show doctor who. while i would love for the show to go on longer because it is so great, there is only
so much you can do to always keep the show fresh and interesting. this way to show would never feel
drawn out, like er or other really long airing shows. i would rather have a a few great 2-3 season shows
consistently than a ton of 5-10 season e.r. or law and order type shows.
there is one upside. there is going to be a spinoff of the show that takes place in the i think 1981 called
"ashes to ashes" which is in reference to another david bowie song. the show is set to air near the later
part of next year. the show will be centered around dci hunt.
actually, it *is* on bbca! i believe they have shown the first 8 eps, i don't
know when the second half will air. in fact, i'm pretty sure it's because of how
well it's done on bbca that the abc version is in the works.
personally, as an american, i'm also very skeptical of the "remake". i have
friends that think it's a good idea since many of the immersive details are lost
on most americans. that's probably true, but i just don't expect them to do the
show justice. i'm trying to keep an open mind, but... *shrug*

i'm not british, i was only staying in the uk for a year and got hooked on the
show - and i still got it. it still felt real to me.
i think the problem is that a lot of americans don't buy into it if it isn't
their version of whatever.
i mean just how much do you need to know about the details of the time (and
place)? things were different back then, they were much more like mavericks.
results are more important than the means.
a lot of the 70s stuff (style) is similiar (enough) all over the western world
anyways. so even seeing something a little different still puts you in the right
kind of mood. and i think birtish 70s in on itself is worth the appreciation.
and while the nostalgia is nice, i think the show much more lives on the
characters and their interaction - or rather the pure crack! that is the gene genie.
though i think the biggest hurdle is the "language barrier". if you've never
heard that accent it takes some getting used to.
as an 'educated' american i have to say that i love this show ... there is not
really much of a language barrier if you've been a long time torrent fan and
experimented with shows from across the 'pond' ... i love skins, sugar, doctor
who, torchwood, coupling, etc ... i'm sad that this show is going away and am
very skeptical of the americanized version ... it seems our 'creative' tv
teams can only take and bastardize. i've always preferred the originals to the
copycats.
thank you and as long as www + torrents live, i will enjoy my tv viewing.
