april 29, 2014, fox announced today that they will not be renewing almost human.

'firefly.' 'alcatraz.' 'terra nova.' 'dollhouse.' 'dark angel.' these are but a few of the fox sci-fi and
fantasy series to be canceled before their time. over its more than a quarter-century of existence,
the network has steadily built up a reputation as the place that genre shows go to die. sadly, one
more name has now been added to that list.

created by former 'fringe' showrunner j.h. wyman, 'almost human' starred karl urban as
detective john kennex, who blames an android (known as "synthetics" in this universe) for the
death of his partner and the loss of his leg. recently out of a coma, kennex is eager to get back on
the force, but finds himself forced into a reluctant partnership with dorian (michael ealy), a
synthetic who possesses a free spirit and wit unlike his cybernetic brethren. together, they fight
crime. no seriously, they do.

thankfully, unlike some of the other sudden cancellations in fox's history, 'almost human' didn't
end its 13-episode season on any major cliffhanger. still, there were several smaller plot threads
left open, that fans will no doubt continue to speculate about long after 'almost human' fades into
tv obscurity.

some may wonder why 'almost human' (which averaged a 1.9 in the 18-49 demo and 6.2 million
total viewers over the course of its first and now only season) is being canceled, while it's 2014
lead-out 'the following' (which averaged a 1.8 demo and 5.2 million total viewers) was renewed
early on.

we'll likely never know what fox's thought process was, but some of it can no doubt be attributed
to 'the following's larger than usual dvr audience, which regularly almost doubled the serial killer
thriller's live viewership.

either way, what's done is done. kennex and dorian are done, and they aren't coming back. let the
angry emails and tweets to fox begin...now!

well, this is upsetting and disappointing. such a good show, so many awesome places it could've gone!
i guess i shouldn't be surprised, but i am.

bastards. they renewed the following which had crappier ratings, but then again it would be cheaper to
make. still bastards.

this was a mess of a show with zero plot, uninteresting characters, and no central driving ideas
behind it. it probably cost a lot to make. there was no doubt it wasn't coming back. in no
universe does it deserve comparison to firefly.

who compared this trash to firefly? i'd like to send em a severed head in a box.. lol.
i didnt like this series but seen how mny ppl wanted it renewed, though i knew from
4 episodes in, (when i stopped watching it), that it wouldnt get renewed, even if this
show was amazing.. sci-fi shows always seem to be the 1st axed immaterial of how
the ratings are, its just a damn shame people/studio's dont give sci-fi shows atleast
a mandatory 2 seasons, no mater the ratings cos 1st season is usually all the finding
their feet stuff.. character building, ect.. then second season is when all the magic
starts to happen.

shame on you fox!

weak predictable writing, over the top cheesiness to the point of cringe worthy. some weak main actors
(minka kelly, michael ealy and lili taylor... minka especially with her dead eyes).

better to free some money up and hope for the some better content later (lol).

well that is a kick in the nuts...

fox will happily renew truly awful shows like the following and sleepy hollow but not this? what a
joke of a channel!

it's the same deal every year, the 'interesting' new shows get canceled, the dull and often repeated live another day.

sure almost human was not gold standard tv, but it was good general watching, i enjoyed it, more so than maybe a half
dozen i got bored with this past year and game up on.

i reckon production cost was a major factor considering they're renewing shows that performed far
worse but still another lousy decision from fox... they wonder why people are reluctant to watch
their shows when they can be cancelled without reason. whether someone else is interested (eg. syfy)
and whether it's even possible it'll go to another network remains to be seen.

another one bites the dust! what a shame... well i guess it's on to the next one.
