this is like a slightly paranormal "da vinci code / national treasure" type thing

was going to say the same thing. reading the synopsis and seeing the recycled themes irritated me.
i'm going to give this a miss. not going to watch it. speaking of recycled themes - i can't
include 'elementary' as merely recycled. it isn't 'sherlock'. 'it isn
can't agree with the ringing endorsement of elementary. for me it's rubbish. these sherlock
holmes/jekyll and hyde reinventions just don't work. the original stories are great and shouldn't be
messed with imo.
i actually rather enjoyed this, the acting wasn't awesome, but it wasn't terrible.
i think it's got some good potential, if they can do it right and not screw everything up like so
many recent shows have done.
as far as sherlock renditions, bbc's sherlock is the only one that matters. at all ; )

meh- it's decent, but seriously overrated
jeremy brett and basil rathbone are the only sherlocks that matter.
i won't try to say which was better; it's like comparing a strike eagle & a spitfire.

i have seen some really bad reviews about this show, but i enjoyed it. i am so sick of those crime
procedurals that infest the tv waves these days, that this was refreshing. although the acting is subpar,
the story kept my attention the entire episode and i was hooked by the cliffhanger. although execution is
not superb, is better than shows like revolution, terra nova or falling skies. i hope it gets better with
time. i am certainly giving it a chance.

get with the times
what are you, 100 years old?
really? that's your argument for the cumberbatch holmes? it's trendy. lol
in that case the downey holmes must be at least as good ๐
the current bbc update is enjoyable but not on par with the '84-'94 version with brett. putting him
in a modern setting has forced them to make silly changes or accept bizarre anachronisms. holmes is
about 125 years old, but he's a classic. tinkering with the formula hasn't improved him and has
produced some clunky results.
as for rathbone, his version is iconic. the performances are less fully realized than brett's, but
that's not the point. his sherlock is like karloff's frankenstein's monster or bela lugosi's
dracula. it fixed an indelible image in the popular consciousness that will be the standard all
others are measured against.
