no big surprise, it was a pretty shitty remake, even though it had it's moments.
trouble is people will compare it to the uk version, no matter what. then again, they didn't even
bother to change te name...
starting with the good: i liked their version of jay. a fat, over the top funnyman who can't get laid. he
would not fit into the context of the uk inbetweeners, but as a whole, i liked him more then the uk jay.
then the bad: everything else.
the actors where badly casted. an extremely bland will and simon, terrible. a stoner neil, in the uk
series the oddball, here he is just annoying and irrelevant. carly and the other girls in the series, vapid
teenage dream bodies. in the uk version carly wasn't so hot (imo a bit of a horseface to be honest...),
she was just simons love interest for the sake of it. and who the hell made bred gelman the principle?
the guy can be very funny in the right place (he's great in go on), but this wasn't the right place...
scripts where dumbed down, the sharp edges that made the uk version so awesome where taken off,
turning it into a typical us comedy. then again, some parts where taken right out of the original, even
the pacing of the jokes! but they just didn't work with this cast! the whole series just felt wrong, so very
very wrong.
man, when will executives learn? shit like this doesn't work. as for mtv, just stick to teenage drama or
cartoons, because your comedies always suck. i mean, what the hell is underemployed? it most
certainly is not a comedy...
as for your question boonesferry: do watch this series, or at least a few (random) episodes. it's
actually quite fun (in a cringe worthy kind of way...) to compare the two series, although the outcome is
set in stone. :-)
mtv should stop the remakes, i dunno why they didn't give skins or the inbetweeners to showtime or
fx or something. i mean the us remake of shameless is actually pretty good.
you see, british comedy is not at all like american comedy, and to be said on times ppl dnt get the
puns/jokes.. ect.. of either countries, but apparently the uk inbetweeners is massive in the us, so it
was innevitable that the us would try make a version, look at some of the others they've remade..
being human.. skins.. cracker.. life on mars.. little britain.. men behaving badly.. nevermind the
buzzcocks.. the office.. porridge.. cold feet.. absolutely fabulous.. shameless
the list goes on and on.. some of the above though remade by the us were actually a lot better
than the uk conterpart, probably due to the bigger budgets tv shows get in the us, but as for the
inbetweeners us goes.. there's no suprise it got axed, it was terrible.
personally, i think one of the best shows the us has remade to date has to be their version of "being
human", still not on par to our version but still.. its a bloody good version. awsome effects, great story
lines, even the actors are well suited for the parts, well.. the werewolfs part could be debatable, that
could just be put down to the way the writers are putting him out there, but still, a very good remake.
while the british one was better, the us one i felt was still entertaining... and man it had some killer music,
i actually looked forward to watching this show, it was painful at times but also gave a good laugh.
