hey that's cool... let's make her a detective!!!! /sarcasm
whilst it certainly won't float my boat, i'm sure that the wife will want me to get it.
i'm showing my age here.. but when i read the part about having the dna from other animals i
immediately thought of an 80's cartoon called "braveheart". "eyes of the hawk" "speed of the puma".
i did chuckle when i read about the leading man not looking like a beast. modern tv viewers want
their "scripted" shows with people they can"t look like and their "reality" shows filled with people
they do look like.
agreed - continue firefly, or reboot farscape. but taking the name "beauty and the beast" while
dropping the "beast" part... then adding super-soldier from kurt russel's soldier and/or universal
soldier, and adding the dna blending from dark angel... well, it is very obviously an attempt at re-
formulation. they are just trying to throw together a pinch of this and a cup of that and a dash of this
other thing... and hoping something sticks.
there really isn't anything new, it isn't even what i would call intelligent "re-imagining" like they did for
battlestar. its just a crappy remix like most of today's music being re-recordings of 1980's songs by
todays 'artists'.
when i was a teen i watched: battlestar, bionic woman, beauty and the beast, charlie's angles, knight
rider, dallas. movies of batman, spiderman, the hulk, star trek the motion picture...
guess what... they are all back on, or tried to be back on. this generation of "creators" can't actually
create a thing. either remake all of my generation's movies, shows and music... or continue the
franchises that their parent's started like the alien, preditor, tron, star trek, marvel and dc, judge
dredd, total recall, footloose...
nothing new. nothing original. just spit out the next re-filming using more modern cameras and cgi.
i fully expect every one of these to be re-re-made in 5, 10 & 15 years for {no glasses required} 3d,
holographic & direct to brain-jack as each technology becomes the new standard. so i will be able to
(once again, and again) see all my same tv shows that i grew up when i am in the retirement home.

in the trailers for this it does show he is scarred and that when he gets angry the scarring seems
to get worse and more protruded - so there's more to it than just the "normal" pics they're using in
promo posters and his in-person appearances. but they're looking for a way to inject some degree of
"reality" into it over previous versions where there's no real-world explanation for things.
i'll withhold final judgement till i see the first episode (or two) but my biggest concern is
kristin kruek - she's exactly the same in every role and none of them good. she was literally the
worst thing in smallville imo and if anything kills this for me, it'll be her.
an old series overlooked by most.........manimal ( mid-to late 80's , i think )
i agree that remakes of previous series or movies is not a good idea if you really want ratings , and
" beauty and the beast " peaked as a disney cartoon . the series with ron perlman and linda hamilton
was not bad at all ( although a bit camp ) and every relationship theme was done to death .
these writers will probably " borrow " a plot line from the old series without realizing it.........
originality is dead in hollywood . reheat some spam , sell it as a new product .
sure thing , the rubes will fall for it every time ( at first..... )
while i agree that hollywood has been producing precious little in terms of "new" ideas (have we
exhausted all the possibilities already? lol), i would at least like to give this series a shot. loved the
original with linda hamilton and ron perlman. the important thing is if there are some decent plot lines
and good interpersonal chemistry to keep things interesting. i'm up for a little "fluff" now and again. 🙂
that's why i love this site - i can download the shows and save them til i'm "in the mood", lol.
what amazes me is that with all the good novel series there are floating around, why we have to keep
remaking the old stories. maybe so we don't have to pay royalties? 😛
they re-make old series left and right because they don't need to think in order to produce
something that could possibly be lucrative ( no guarantees ) .
what they need to do is find a concept that worked as a movie , and extend it forward as a series
like they did with stargate , which was arguably one of the best sci-fi series ever , right along
side babylon 5 .
i would suggest they take the nicholas cage movie next , and turn that into a series .
imagine a federal agent who can see up to two minutes into his own future , tackling dangerous
situations in which he can walk thru a firefight like a sunday stroll , since he knows every move
that won't get him killed . such a man would be almost invincible...................
how much could the clueless writers of hollywood do with that concept ?
the movie next was based on the sci-fi story the golden man by phillip k. dick .
