eztv is aware that many of you prefer 720p.
if/when 'the scene' releases a 720p version eztv will post a link to it.
please refrain from asking for specific releases (i.e. 720p) for at least 24 hours...
...it is in poor taste and against this site's rules (which actually say 72 hours).
if you know that there is a scene release of a show that eztv generally links to
and eztv missed it, and it's been at least 24 hours since it's release, then feel free to discuss it.



reminder: eztv does not cap (record) tv shows and has no control over what shows are chosen, or the
container (file format) that is used, or the video resolution (sd or 720p). this is a function of 'the
scene', not eztv. what eztv does do is post links...to scene releases.

no, i'm pretty sure that's not right. the vast majority of hdtv caps are being released more or less
simultaneously in sd and 720p by the major scene groups. eztv usually only posts the sd encode,
though. on 15 july, for example, eztv distributed about a dozen sd releases but 720p releases for only
about a quarter or those, even though 720p releases would also have been available for the other three
quarters.

i'm guessing that the reason is, once again, lack of available seeding bandwidth. there's only so much
to go around, per day, and obviously each 720p transfer consumes a disproportionate amount of that
quota due to the larger filesize.

if that is indeed so, belatedly posting 720p encodes doesn't seem feasible at all. the only way to free
the required bandwidth would be to refrain from posting another, non-belated 720p encode, so there's
no net advantage. well, maybe it's workable on days with an unusually light load (i.e. small number of
new releases), like saturdays. seems like a lot of extra effort for relatively little gain, though.

my advice would be to refrain from making such requests altogether, regardless of circumstances and
timing. if eztv doesn't carry the specific release one is after, there are plenty of other places to try.

these are all just educated guesses based on past experience, mind you. if ferry has insider knowledge
which contradicts any of the above, that would obviously constitute more reliable information and i'd
offer my humble apologies. 🙂

i love how there's ridiculous tech in this show but we all just accept it because she's from the
future. is that a sign of well-written scifi?

@kassyopeia -- you are correct, in the past eztv has not always posted 720p when they were available,
but eztv is starting to post more and more 720p versions. this makes me very happy. :-)

in this case, i had checked four prominent pre databases and and at the time of my earlier post there
was no 720p scene release. hours later, shortyly after the scene released a 720p version it was posted
here on eztz.

and, as you said, "if eztv doesn't carry the specific release one is after, there are plenty of other
places to try."

ah, i had not really noticed that trend. way to go. i happened to notice 1080p.hdtv releases for the first
time recently (see e.g. http://orlydb.com/1?q=thrones+s02e10) , do you know if there are any plans to
eventually distribute those as well?

when i was 14, that may have been a wretched grope ;^)
it was more like a cupping, fingers spread wide, no movement, no squeezing.
