3) .mp4

i'm guessing this mp4 version is also 720p, seeing as the file size is quite a bit larger than the
sd avi.

i understand about having the .mp4 and either a .mkv or a .avi of a lower res, but why have both a
.avi and a .mkv?

.mkv files have a resolution about 1280 x 720, .mp4 "just" 720 x 404, .avi nowadays is the weakest
link: 624 x 352.

ps3 plays mp4 files just fine its just mkv files that are not supported

i'm not familiar with the technical problems associated with .mkv. maybe someone can explain this to me;

i have a new br player that seems to handle everything...practically any format, bitrate, or other
specs. it plays everything without problem...except mkv files. it's supposed to be able to handle
them, but i'm lucky if 25% of them work.

i've read a few times that mkv can be a compatibility nightmare. why is that?

i think it's just the file extension. haven't come across a mkv renamed to mp4 that didn't work on
my gf's ps3. every mp4 works so far. not every avi though. i don't care if they make ten different
encodes, as long as there is one decent x264 mp4.

so... renaming magically transcodes the file nowadays? man those release groups should have heard
about this ages ago. 😉

i guess with three different file types everyone should be happy.
