about the show

former senator selina meyer (comedian/actress julia louis-dreyfus) has accepted the call to serve as
vice president of the united states. the job is nothing like she imagined and everything she was
warned about. 'veep' follows meyer and her staff as they attempt to make their mark and leave a
lasting legacy, without getting tripped up in the day-to-day political games that define washington.

meyer's inner circle includes: her chief of staff amy (anna chlumsky), longtime press spokesperson
mike mcclintock (matt walsh), right hand and body man gary (tony hale) and secretary sue (sufe
bradshaw) all of whom often do battle with dan egan (reid scott) an ambitious interloper and smug
white house liaison jonah (tim simons).

created by armando iannucci (the thick of it, in the loop), the comedy is scripted but shot in an
improvisational style. 'veep' is authentic without being specifically biographical about what it is like to
hold the least effectual post in the most powerful office in the world.

veep utilises the same cinema-verite filming style as iannucci's bbc television sitcom the thick of it,
which is set in a fictional department of the british government.

yeah i don't think this is going to make it past season 1.

love iannucci, the thick of it is one of the best tv shows ever. hoping this is as good

wow. just not funny at all. not even a little.

i found it a bit bland for an hbo comedy. sure, there was swearing, but as i'm not from the us that
doesn't make it "edgy" for me. ;-)

surprised that armando iannucci tried this. comedy that works in the uk doesn't go over the same in
the us. after all it doesn't have a laughter track involved heh 😉

their over-use of the word "fuck" did not hold any shock value, it did not emphasise anything, it wasn't
surprisingly humorous, it was just awkward and ridiculous. i can't believe anyone at the studio watched
it before giving it the thumbs up. just crazy. on the other hand i'm a long time fan of julia louis-
dreyfus and she made the show semi-enjoyable for the last five minutes or so. i'll watch ep2...just for
julia louis-dreyfus 🧐
