planned obsolescence is the deliberate shortening of product life spans to guarantee consumer
demand. as a magazine for advertisers succinctly puts it:

if it is the documentary i have already seen, it's excellent and it leaves you with a sense of
despair for our society.

i watched this 12+ months ago and it nearly gave me depression. but there is a flip side to planned
obsolescence, a good side. it is in that since science marches on and on, it might be ethically
questionable to produce an item that would last a hundred years since a superior product might be
developed in the next year. by superior i mean an item that consumes less electricity or fuel or one
that could otherwise cause problems in the long run. i can absolutely understand that planned
obsolescence could be used to rip off people on an incomprehensible scale, and it has been done in
the case of light bulbs, but still... no need to dwell in despair. it is not a completely evil
concept. just 60% evil or so 🙂

you don't need to be an economist nor do you need to be an environmentalist to figure this shit out.

this is what happens when you spend your life sitting around waiting for someone to tell you what to do.

as far as i'm concerned the general population deserves what it will get. and if shit really does
end up hitting the fan in our lifetime you can bet your last dollar that nobody will be there to
tell you what to do and they certainly won't be extending their hand to assist in your survival.
