before someone jumps in and is a dick about it: .mp4/x264 appears to be the new standard.

but it may be time to adapt to the new container as divx/xvid is slowly being moved away from.

i went from a 5 year old dvd player with divx support to xbmc and it's seems to play all the new stuff just
fine.

watching this on the xbox360 now, spotting quite a few frame-skips. nothing fatal but it is noticeable.

lots of options out there, but i am a big fan of the "wdtv live" media players. under $100 (in canada)
and they work fantastically for legacy and the new formats... i have been using one for about 3 years now
and still going strong!

the only downfall is that there is no built-in wi-fif for those needing it... i personally use wi-fi on mine
through the use of an old linksys router running dd-wrt and configured as a wireless bridge:

wdtv <--> linksys < - - - wifi - - - -> home router <--> home pc and home file server

something for those struggling with the death of xvid... easy solution and low cost.
