no it's a higher quality for a smaller file size. the old rules were make it fit into a certain file size 350 or
550 and damn the quality. the new rules are use this quality setting regardless of file size. the extra
size on this most likely means the episode is a little longer than normal. under the old rules this very
likely would have been released as a 550mb file.
...isn't the benefit of this new x264 thing supposed to be smaller file sizes? why
is this one bigger than
the usual .avi?
that is supposed to be true, but it isn't ending up that way. all too many of the files are larger
than their avi counterparts with no discernible increase in video quality. that is unless you view
them on extremely large hd tv's, and even then the difference is minimal at best.
this episode was about 7 or 8 minutes longer than the usual episode, but it shouldn't have added
that much to an x264 file which should have still been less than 300megs if done correctly. it's
just that the clowns who decided to go with this x264 crap can't decide on one set encoding method
and file sizes are all over the place. one of the hour shows (about 43 minutes of actual air time)
came in at over 550 megs. sorry, but that completely nullifies the only reason to go with this
essentially useless file format.
yeah, it's a bit bleak actually - i used to use this site for the links, but now i have to look
elsewhere. okay, sure, if i decided to adopt the x264 thing then i'd be fine, but erm... not interested.
eztv does not record the shows
eztv does not encode the show
eztv has no control over file formats or torrent file names
eztv does not communicate with "the scene" release groups
this is not a request forum.
if you dont like the selection of torrent links that are provided on this site then go to another site.
and don't bother to spew your bullshit on this site before you leave.
this is 2012, not 1995. things change. get over it.
buh bye.
1996 -- dvd movies
2001 -- xvid
2003 -- h.264 (x264)
2006 -- blu-ray
2012 -- "the scene" adopts h.264 (x264)
xvid vs. h264, old tech vs. new tech.
.wav vs. mp3. old tech vs. new tech.
older tech usually last about 10 years.
stop bitching and whining about xvid vs. h.264 (x264) and avi vs. mp4 and mkv.
you can't put your vhs tape in a dvd player or your 8-track audio cartridge in a cassette player. nor
can you put your 12" vinyl alubm in your cd player. time and technology change...get used to it.
grow up and realize that the world does not stop advancing just for you. spend $50 on a stand-alone
network/wifi/usb player for your tv. or take your free torrents, your free time, and free apps to
convert files to whatever format you choose. fyi: $50 divided by 10 years = $5 per year, or 42 cents
per month. with a $100 stand-alone product you're still only spending 83 cents per month. that's less
than a cup of coffee or a can of red bull.
example:
$49.99 -- sony smpn100 network wifi media player
1080p, dlna wireless streaming, usb,
bd remote, hdmi (cable not included).

eventually all scene releases, and most non-scene release, will be h.264/x264...until another new
tech comes along in ten years.
thanks boonesferry for educating some of these .avi whiners!
as for the file, perfect quality until the last minute or so where its out of sync and has some
video missing.
but what im really happy about is that asap no longer has these focus changing issues they used to
have with the avi's, im glad i tried one of these x264 mp4 asap ones!
i for one love the new format, better quality and usually a smaller size!
