1. maybe no dvd players but there a many standalone devices, including blu-ray players, on the
market that support aac playback. some are available for under $75 dollars like the wdtv. the apple
tv, which supports it, is $99 new or $85 refurbished.
2. aac may be patented but it is offered license and royalty free.

the same can not be said about mp3 which is what is currently used in xvid releases. it is also based on
internationally recognized standards, which again, can not be said about mp3.
