i beg to differ. xvid works -perfectly- on my dvd player.
so if i said a cassette worked perfectly on a vhs played, would you consider vhs perfect?
technologies are meant to be surpassed. that's just how it is. get over it.
mp4 is visibly better quality.

mp4 sucks and if i had the money to buy all new equipment just to play the mp4s instead of the avis
which work perfectly on the hardware i already own then i'd just get a satellite or premium cable
and watch the shows as they're meant and not have to download them at all

i'm not going to get into a discussion about someone's right to complain about something that he
gets for free (like you just pointed that fact out).
all i'm saying is that mp4 is better. something "working perfectly" is not reason enough for keeping
it around forever.

if you cant find your show in xvid..
use that to find your x-vid avi. that will give you the scene name for the release.
assuming it hasn't been nuked on orly. copy and paste that file name into a piratebay search.
only get files from "trusted" "vip" sources on piratebay. (they have skulls next to their names).
for x264 (which is different to h264)
use http://www.orlydb.com/s/tv-x264
for the more compact format. "

wtb sticky or "website news post" to clarify from eztv what they will be doing.

:p - malarkey
i'm not arguing about whether xvid is better than mp4 _overall_, but whether there is something xvid
which is better than mp4- and there is. if i'm just watching on a by myself, then the mp4 is at
least as good if not better (for that use). if i want to watch a show with other people, then being
compatible with a dvd player makes the xvid better (for that use). with most network or basic cable
shows, the latter isn't as much of a consideration, but with premium cable offerings, i actually do
have friends come over to watch them on tv (since none of us pony up for the subscription fees).
likewise, if i said that vhs is better than dvd, then i'd be generally wrong given that the quality
is worse and there's no advantage when everyone has dvd players. otoh, what about betamax and
laserdisc, whose players i can only access at a library? those both have better quality, but if you
can't play them the way that you want, then it's hard to argue that they're better for that reason
alone.
