yeah i know it sucks big time but apparently the lol group are not the brightest bulbs and changed
their uploads so either eztv needs to carry someone elses' stuff or we all have to find a new
torrent site

doesn't seem to be one yet but....

2hd have done avi of grimm, fringe and clone wars. they and *fqm* are two groups still doing xvid
but others still are as well.

does mean they have a higher workload between them though as fewer groups doing just as many shows
so need to be patient and not get concerned when the x264 comes out (they encode in about 2/3 the
time so are *almost* always going to be released before the avi.

it is possible though that some shows will come out in one format and not the other so it's worth
looking into conversion or alternate ways to play the files.

it's not just lol... quite a large number of groups have adopted x264 as new standard: asap,
bajskorv c4tv, d2v, diverge, ftp, kyr, lmao, lol, momentum, sys, tla and yestv were all responsible
for the new rules relating to x264 and all now encode in x264 as it's faster and smaller file size.
momentum seem to do xvid still but not till after they've done x264. fqm and 2hd are still doing xvid.

these x264 mp4s will not play on all dvd players but will play on some, ps3, xbox360 and assorted
other devices.

eztv have been posting xvid but xvids are taking longer because there are fewer groups doing them
and x264 are faster to encode as well so they're out quicker than the xvids would have been anyhow -
which makes it seem like the xvids are taking even longer. pb does seem to get the xvid up faster
though so not sure if eztv are changing their policy or not.

only problem is for people who watch on standalone players that don't support x264 mp4 - which seems
to be quite a few people.

i wonder if people complained so much when music went from cylinder to viny to 8 track, to cassette?
or when video and audio when from tape to cd or dvd, or to mp3 or wmv. hmm....

for the pc, vlc plalyer (free) comes with all the necessary codecs to play all file types.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

for stand-alone players that use dvd, usb, or other mediums that play native divx or avi, yeah it
sucks a little, you're gonna have to convert your files (i like convertxtodvd - takes me 10min to
convert and burn a one hour show to dvd using a dual core 2.93 ghz 2g ram pc) or invest in even
newer stand-alone hardware players that play the newest file formats. ain't new tech wonderful ;-)

i'm interested in hearing what apps/tool or setups you guys are using to play multiple file formated
shows on your tv.

i get the change.. i really do..

but mid season!?!? that sucks. i keep most of my shows, now all the current shows are going to be
split between avi and mp4.

to make matters worse.. the mp4 encoding that they are doing doesn't even work with my ipod (5.5
gen) that i watch all my shows on. so i still have to re-encode to a different mp4 anyway.

thats funny as i've watched quite a few of the mp4 releases and thought ooh nice the quality of the picture
is so much better..
my ps3 has no problem playing any of the mp4 files and vlc is for the win on mac or pc so i must be in
the minority feeling that i rather like the change.
different strokes for different folks eh?

i take back what i said. i watched a gifted man on mp4 and it was fine after i changed my file
association from quicktime player to vlc, i think the qt annoyed me last time. nothing wrong with the
mp4, save 100meg times......gotta be a plus too.

very surprising with these mp4-files but i transform them with format factory, it should be ok. you
see, i load them over to a flashstick and watch them via my dvdplayer on my tv 🙂
