...the royal bodyguard follows the adventures of hapless captain guy hubble, a former guardsman
who has recently been appointed as security for the queen, after a mishap which sees him accidentally
saving her life. this first episode sees hubble working at the commonwealth conference in scotland
where there is suggestion that a planned assassination will take place upon the monarch.

much to the disdain of his boss colonel dennis whittington, hubble is let loose upon the conference
leaving a trail of unintentional mishaps and disastrous events in his wake.

i'm sure many well enjoy this new series, but it's not for me.
i watched only part of the first episode upon realizing i've seen all the bodyguards antics before..
the are simply a ripoff of peter sellers moves as he played inspector clouseau.

ah, yes. i think everyone that can afford it should hire a 5'2", 72 year old as their bodyguard. 😉

ok, so he won't be 72 until february, but who's counting? and i suppose this sort of bodyguard must be more of an
intellectual position, one that gives him authority to direct the younger muscle where needed?

"direct the younger muscle..." geez, there's a grouping of words i never thought i'd ever utter. lol (oh, the jokes...)

i thought exactly the same. this might have worked 20 years ago, but nowadays you can see
everything coming, it's very dated. i'll watch the next episode to see if it improves though...it's
a 6-parter i believe.

after being put through this torturous attempt at being funny, i was not amused (literally).
it would appear that the two writers of this must have watched the pink panther remake in a bid to
understand true comedy.

y'know, i had absolutely no idea this was a comedy until i watched it. thought it was a new drama!

it wasn't all bad. david jason doing an inspector clouseau clone was amusing, if a bit painful to watch in this day and age.
that style of humor is incredibly dated, so i don't blame the show for it not fully hitting the mark (read: funny bone). it's
merely old-hat for most of us. the irony is that jason will pull-in the older crowd, yet it's the younger people that would
have the best chance of finding it hilarious, since they've had little exposure to it.

i did laugh out loud a few times, though, despite how predictable much of it was. the dinner scene with the lobster had me
howling, for one. and the two main villains were clearly this show's boris & natasha (any bets we'll see them as recurring
villains?). i kept expecting her to say, "moose und skvirrel!" instead of "hubble!" lol

we'll see. maybe, just maybe this'll find it's niche and be more funny in subsequent eps. here's hoping.
