life's too short is an observational sitcom series, created and written by ricky gervais and
stephen merchant, from an idea by warwick davis, and is described by gervais as about "the life
of a showbiz dwarf", with davis playing a fictionalised version of himself. gervais and merchant
will appear in cameos as themselves.[1] the show began airing on bbc two on 10 november
2011.[2][3] premium cable channel, hbo has picked up the us rights and will air the series in
2012.[4]

watched about 10-15 minutes and got bored.

the liam neeson scene was amazing.

anyone else have a problem with the audio freaking out a few times?

any new show deserves about 4 episodes of attention span, but that said i guess thats why so many
shows get cancelled?

the first 10-15 min of the first episode of seinfeld was boring. imagine if we didn't give that a shot.

okay- so this is a ricky gervais comedy starring warwick davis in the ricky gervais role. that's not
a good thing because the formula is that gervais writes scenarios where you laugh at a
self-important nincompoop who believes that people admire him and who is completely unaware of the
fact that everyone considers him to be either a tremendous ass or an object of pity.

there is a single funny scene twenty minutes into the show. it features liam neeson. the joke in
his scene is that neeson doesn't realize that there are certain topics (eg. bowel cancer, aids,
famine in africa, etc.) which are generally poisonous to comedy. it takes great skill to
incorporate these topics successfully into humor. most of the time you'll just end up with
something offensive and unfunny. gervais is presumably aware of the fact that this is a potential
pitfall for his show. he even alludes to this by having a set piece with a dwarf in black face.

it's ironic that like the characters he's played in the past, gervais is massively overestimating
just how talented he is. he seems to think that he's so clever that he can get you to spend half an
hour laughing about how pitiful an overly confident dwarf is. he is not. the show ends on a
horrible low note: davis trapped in a doggy door.

that's not realistic. i'll give a show two episodes on general principle. if it's terrible (like
allen gregory), then i don't need to see more. if it's not awful, i'll give it a third just to see
if it's trending up or down. if i've seen three eps and i feel the show isn't very good and (like
once upon a time) isn't showing significant improvement, then i'm not going to waste my time with a
fourth.

omg?! really, havent followed seinfeld but i love when its on tv. though i think this show is not gonna be
the same quality, and also i watched the first 5 minutes and thought it sucked

it is david brent, but in mini me style. fantastic. the scene with liam nelson made me tear in laughter. my
ribs are still saw. awesome!

i think that the problem is that one needs to make the david brent character someone that the audience
can feel comfortable laughing at and feeling superior to. you don't want to feel empathy or sympathy for
him or it stops being funny. generally that's not a problem: just have someone act like a deluded
nincompoop. if you've got someone with a disability then that makes it more difficult. obviously, it isn't
impossible. danny devito could do it without breaking a sweat. this guy comes off more as nice and
struggling than arrogant and self-important. also, devito would not rely on jokes that depended on his size
very much. taxi is an all time classic, and he'd only have a couple of laugh lines that depended on that
every 3 or 4 shows. here you've got everything tied to it. it's like ralphie may making every punch line be
about his obesity.

meh. i'm not big on cringe tv so i won't be watching this. had a few good moments though. i liked his
soon-to-be-ex-wife. larry david does this kind of thing with a bit more clever and a little less nasty.

in general i found the actually documentary / solo bits more interesting than the acted comedy bits.
