i dunno... i think they got a decent guy to play spartacus, but the true question will be if the writers have
enough of a story that we can get hooked into that and overlook the fact that andy whitfield is no longer a
part of the show.
if nothing more, true spartacus fans will give it a try and enjoy some gratuitous nudity, spraying blood,
and raw emotions. i'll be looking forward to this next season and wish the show the best despite not
having the main man who helped make the show as powerful as it was. even the prequel season without
him was a great watch.
do they bulk up the actors with cgi effects after they are done recording? in the trailer at 1:26 it looks like
liam has the same build as a stereotype computer nerd.
all due respect to the late andy whitfield. even so, i can't agree that the acting was a vital part
of the first season's success. frankly, even the athletics of stage combat required from the actors
were limited; i've literally seen more impressive stage combat from little girls (in kick-ass). the
stunt coordinators, camera crew, special effects crew, make-up artists (i blame them for high oil
prices), personal trainers, costume designers, set designers... there are probably at least a dozen
among these that would be harder to replace than whitfield.
this show isn't about acting, it's about esthetic shots (well, porn...), action scenes, and gore.
the motivations of the characters are stereotypical to the extreme, and not portrayed in any
original, inventive or creative ways. the actors aren't to blame for this. in fact, i'm pretty sure
they would appreciate an increased focus on drama; whitfield included, if he had lived. so, like i
said, all due respect to them. that still doesn't change the fact that the show is light on acting
and heavy on everything else.
(a slight exception for some of the roman characters, but, unless this turns into a ghost story, we
won't see them again...)
not that i'm complaining: porn, action and gore suits me fine. when there are enough naked women, i
can even tolerate a few naked men. so far, so good!
i liked the spartacus prequel a lot, and andy wasn't even in it. one character that i will miss a lot is john
hannah, hopefully he is replaced by an actor as talented as he was.

don't forget, lucrecia (sp?) is supposed to be crazy this next season... she could always see visions of
good batiatus which would be reason to have john hannah come impress us some more with his sick
perversions, facial expressions, and total douchebag believery... haha
