does anyone else think it is beyond sad and pathetic that bbc are waiting almost a week after it's u.s./canadian and
australian debuts before they air it in the u.k. by the time they air it anyone in the u.k. with even a dial-up internet
connection could have downloaded watched and re watched it several times, personally i think they waited so long so that
very few people actually watch it which will give them the perfect chance to cancel it permanently. i think bbc should just
p*ss off and let a network who actually wants torchwood have full control over it and give it the respect it deserves.

no, i think it has more to do with the 'foreign' interests trying to assert their authority over the
bbc and broadcast it on their timetable, just like doctor who this season.

rather than telling the bbc to p*ss off, i'd rather let a network who understands torchwood, it's
origins and storyline, and are willing to stay true to that, continue with. americans simply don't
get it. it's outside their cultural norms and as with so many series the us remakes that fail, the
cultural viewpoints, humour and storyline just don't translate to america very well, which is why so
many series fail.

america has to have a bad guy, a villain, an evil cause behind the whole event, a mastermind.
someone or something they can point to and blame. other countries are not so rigid of everything
being good vs bad, or that there is always someone to blame, pursue, capture and punish. the unknown
is often scarier when left unknown. for example, the doctor who episode 'midnight' was brilliant.
there was no need to spoil it with trying to explain what it was. you don't know and never find out.
not even the doctor knows, but he knows the effect it's having on the people, and there lies the
culture difference. americans seem to have to explain it, they can't leave it 'unknown'. they can
keep the mystery. they want to understand it because understanding takes away the mystery and the
fear, and like almost every american tv show, they have to have a happy ending.

i saw that the repeating phenomena from the 'midnight' episode badly copied on an episode of fringe
shortly after "midnight'. total fail. it seemed thrown in for a bit of strangeness, but they
couldn't do it in sync and it added nothing to the plotline.

several major flaws just from the description of the show and the plot outlines.

1. captain jack left earth, and was last seen in an alien bar where the doctor introduced him to
alonso, the bridge officer from the titanic episode, as someone to 'get together with' far from
earth. jack considered himself too dangerous to be on earth. without a doctor who crossover, why
would he go back to earth again and put people in danger, and how would he know of any need for him
to be there or that some lowly cia nobody is looking for him???

2. captain jack cannot die (well, he dies alright, but doesn't stay dead). in the last series, they
planted a bomb inside him and blew him up. he was nothing but a few scattered bone fragments, and he
still came back, regrew bone and tissue and was as good as new, so if he cannot die, and the rest of
the world cannot die, why send assassins to kill them?????

3. gwen is the last surviving member of torchwood and wants nothing to do with it so much, she is in
hiding with her husband and baby. so since the story revolves around the american cia agent trying
to uncover what torchwood was, this is more about introducing the concept (however distorted it ends
up) to the american public, and i'm sure they will try to 'explain' it as well as they can using
simple words and concepts.

4. how is this cia agent so inept that he cannot find out through unit, the unified intelligence
taskforce that worked with the doctor for many years and who were fully aware as an international
entity of the existence of torchwood. hell, even martha jones worked in the new york office of unit
and worked with torchwood after having travelled with the doctor.

so before telling the bbc to p*ss off and give full control to some other network, try thinking of
the implications of what that means to the storyline, the rules of the universe as set out in doctor
who since the 60's and whether they know or even understand the plots and histories that are so
intertwined and if they are able to stay true to it or not

ps: religion in doctor who and torchwood has been somthing of ridicule, and the xmas episodes have
nothing to do with religion except to sometimes add a reference that its some ancient pagan
celebration, and santa is an evil robot with a deadly brass section and killer xmas trees. until the
recent doctor who xmas carol episode. adding religion to the show is a big mistake, and even the
title 'miracle day" makes me want to vomit. but i'm sure america will add more religion to the show
where it doesn't belong.

the 1st episode of torchwood miracle day was shockingly bad. a co-worker and i, both huge fans of
torchwood were utterly dismayed at how much miracle day wasnt torchwood. it was completely sanitised
and americanised. i hope it gets better, and i hope it goes back to its roots and starts killing off the
annoying american characters.

i am in total agreeance that the latest episode is a load of trash.

i really think we can say goodbye to what torchwood has always been.

say hello to americas polluted way of undoing great things.
